He took the time to demo 3 different models we were interested in learning about. Once we decided on the vehicle of our choice, Claude made the purchase easy and enjoyable. He never pressured use to purchase, instead he took the time the explain the differences in each vehicle and show which was best for us. Once we made our decision, Mandy Barnard worked with us to assure the closing was a great experience. I have purchase a lot of cars in my life time but I would say this purchase was the most enjoyable I have ever done. I recommend Claude and Mandy of Capitol Euro Cars to anyone who is looking to buy a new vehicle. They will be the first on my list in the future to visit when I am going to purchase a new vehicle. We will be back, but We are seniors. I retired from the military nearly two decades ago. My wife always wanted a Mercedes and we are at the point in our lives when it was We are seniors. I retired from the military nearly two decades ago. My wife always wanted a Mercedes and we are at the point in our lives when it was time. We have used USAA buyer’s services to buy autos (and Harleys) nearly two dozen times. USAA buyer’s service has always worked well. When we inquired of them about buying a certified pre-owned Mercedes, I sensed it, as USAA subtly pointed us to Dothan, AL Mercedes 90 miles away – I suspect they realized the long-term relationship with the Ft Rucker community and that Benz dealer, there. But, I like to keep the local economy moving and we got two recommendations from USAA with certificates fixing the prices at our local dealer. I don’t think the local dealership is too familiar with USAA, its members, and its buying service. 1) I suggest that when USAA buyer’s service provides info to USAA members, there really isn’t anything to negotiate and that Crown Motors can move straight to the close based upon what USAA provides to its members. 2) I suggest that Crown Motors (throughout Florida) make the buying experience for seniors (and retired military, too) a little less officious and accept the fact that when a senior comes in to buy, they are going to buy. They don’t need to be left in an office for (four) long periods of time while the salesperson checks out the details with others. 3) We didn't want or need financing. There was pressure to accept financing and when we inquired as to the added fees to finance, we declined after learning the added costs. Being assured that if we live long enough, we will buy another Benz from you. They are top quality automobiles and “fit” well with we seniors. My wife loves the car. What troubled us: Along with certificates on two potential cars, USAA buyer’s service also gave us the fair value of our trade-in. When the dealership made us the offer, the value given for our trade-in was far below the value USAA stated. When I mentioned what USAA said similar models were currently selling for – we were told our trade-in wasn’t worth that new…. The dealership showed us a website that indicated their offer on the trade in was fair. I countered that USAA appraised above what their website showed. I did say I would accept the deal if the dealership came up on the trade in value. They declined indicating that two bumpers needed repairs. There was mention of the quality of repairs that Mercedes would do. So, we declined to close the deal with the offered trade-in price, but we left a down payment of $5K on the car we wanted. We immediately drove to a used dealer in Tallahassee who produced a print out of the official NADA blue book for us for our car and that was more than $1,500 more than was being offered at Benz. That dealer offered to pay us NADA if I would do the repairs and return with the car. I didn’t have the time because of a pending a business trip. So, we drove to the Tallahassee Ford dealer who offered us $1,800 more than Mercedes, if I would do the repairs. I countered saying I had the business trip, asking them what it would cost to do the repairs in their body shop? We were quoted $800. I sold the car to Ford for $1,000 more than Benz offered us for the trade in with Ford doing the repairs at $800 – and we’re sure Ford made a profit! Here’s the point: During all the discussion about the appearance of the bumpers on our trade in - after we got the Benz home my wife noticed a large “rub” several inches square on the Benz’ side/rear bumper down thru the clear coat and into the fiberglass. Upon examination, it appears that a “finger nail polish” sort of paint was used to cosmetically fill in the gouge and cover the damage. The paint bears brush marks - it isn't smooth or flush with the bumper. It wasn’t of the caliber of repair we were led to believe would be done on a certified pre-owned Mercedes. Again, no hard feeling and lesson learned. I suspect that with the USAA price, the dealership was trying to make their profit off of the trade in and that's business. Rest assured we will come back to our local Benz dealer for maintenance on this car and again to purchase our next. We have learned to trust USAA buyer's service and will use them to negotiate everything and anything on our behalf before we walk in, and then quickly walk out with our next car. We will dispose of our trade-ins elsewhere before we buy our next car. That was the lesson we learned. And Kudos to the dealership: Benz did call following the sale and were kind enough to send us instructions for the garage door opener and tell us about the seat adjustments (that was before my wife discovered the damaged/repaired bumper). They are OK and we will return to them. It just wasn't the sort of experience I expected based upon all the advertisements. More
