Hello, On your Ford Edge you had a cracked taillight. This is not a warrantable item, therefore the service department had no way to replace it under warranty. Regarding your recent visit, it was made very clear to you why we couldn't cover the wheel bearing and speed sensor. It is due to the under coating that you had installed on your new vehicle. We returned the old parts to you and showed you exactly what the issue was and what caused this. As stated on your repair order, "Performed test drive and verified warning lights on. Checked for codes and found code C0034 for the right front wheel speed sensor. Removed wheel to perform electrical diagnosis and found the vehicle had undercoating on the sensor and damage to the tone ring." Austin Davey, Service Manager 269-684-8300, EXT 303

Thanks for the reply to both issues. The Ford Edge tail light assembly appeared to be broken at delivery/pickup since there was moisture in the taillight. There was a lot of discussion about it at that time too. For the Explorer, there was also a lot of discussion and written explanation which did not match what obviously looks like a defect in the magnet/tone ring. The undercoating was on the sensor cable and not on the wheel hub/magnet ring. This was also made clear. Since it was speculation as to the reason for the defective part, it is disappointing that the assumption is that we caused this by the undercoating. It appears to the mechanic that looked at this after the repair that it would have been inconclusive as to the cause. Research also indicates that dust, dirt, salt, and other debris can cause this type of failure. The service department may not realize that some of the customers are engineers that supply sensors to Ford and other manufacturers. We know something about vehicles…..
