I usually don't write reviews, but felt it was need for this dealership. I recently tried purchasing a car at VW Boston. I called and inquired about the vehicles they had on their lot before visiting. The this dealership. I recently tried purchasing a car at VW Boston. I called and inquired about the vehicles they had on their lot before visiting. The salesman fumbled with his own filekeeping system and kept me on the line waiting for 20 minutes before telling me he did not have what I was looking for. He said a similar car was coming in and I could visit that weekend to see it. We scheduled an appointment. The morning of the appointment he called and cancelled saying the car was not there and he had no other car to show me. He offered to bring the car I wanted to see in again. We rescheduled. He called me and told me that the car I wanted was in, and I should make my way there quickly. I did, but when I arrived I saw it was not the car i requested at all (diff color, features, etc). He then insisted we sit and talk numbers for a car I hadn't even seen! He REFUSED to bring the car I asked to see in unless I paid a significant deposit and would COMMIT TO BUY A CAR I NEVER SAW, or one similar for that matter! He then proposed a deal and was quite rude throughout the process. When I asked if he would negotiate with me on anything he refused! He ended up keeping me there for about 2 hours, never showed me a single car or made any effort to SELL me anything. It was "just take it or leave it I don't need or want your sale."I was hoping to make this an easy sell for the dealership. I knew what I wanted, and I did my homework prior to buying. I ended up purchasing the car at Colonial VW of Medford dealership and I have to say it was night and day! They are wonderful! I would say if you are in the Boston area go straight there. Great service and respectful (well-deserving of a sale) sales people. More
Needed coolant for a Phaeton. Sent my son who is 24 and very smart and has owned a few cars. Was told they only stock the gallon size rather than the quart or pint. Had to pay $67 for the gallon rather t very smart and has owned a few cars. Was told they only stock the gallon size rather than the quart or pint. Had to pay $67 for the gallon rather than a much lower price. BEWARE!! the reviews are accurate. Scam artists having a monopoly in Boston. More
My Jetta is a decent little car, but I'd never even consider another VW because these guys have a lock on the Boston market. Why did I have to point out to the service guy that the several hundred d consider another VW because these guys have a lock on the Boston market. Why did I have to point out to the service guy that the several hundred dollar charge was still covered by the warranty? Other dealers will go out of their way to help you get things covered. These guys were at best unhelpful, and at worst trying to get paid twice. I've had many other experiences that ranged from unpleasant to expensive. I've never enjoyed going there, or being there. Oh and if you don't visit for a year they delete you from the system, and it's like you're a new customer - fill out all the info, and no history. What the heck were they thinking with that? More
This dealership is a complete chop shop!!!! These guys have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Brought a GTI in because of a sound coming from the undercarriage of the car. The car was diagnosed as h have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Brought a GTI in because of a sound coming from the undercarriage of the car. The car was diagnosed as having transmission issue. First they tried to rebuild the existing transmission which did not get rid of the problem. So they then ordered a new transmission from Volkswagen and installed it. I was given the car back with a clean bill of health. The next morning I started the car and it would not go into drive. There was also a new mechanical noise coming from the gear box. The endercarriage noise I originally brought the car in for was also still there. Brought it back to Boston VW and they blamed all the problems on the new transmission being defective. They replaced the "new" defective transmission and put another new transmission in. This time I got the car back and it was slipping when the car went from 1st to second (it would kick into gear). The undercarriage noise I originally brought the car in for was also syill there. So after all of this not only did Boston VW not fix my original problem but they created a new and probably much more serious one. I am still trying to get this resolved as we speak. The managers are complete morons and the service people are uninformed. The workmanship is obviously suspect. this dealership sucks. Stay away. More
I leased a car from these guys, and the salespeople were awful. However, the service people are friendly, helpful and sensitive to cost issues. I now own a Passat I bought at Bernardi (no longer sells VW, awful. However, the service people are friendly, helpful and sensitive to cost issues. I now own a Passat I bought at Bernardi (no longer sells VW, I don't believe) but I use Boston for service since it's convenient to my work. They've done me favors (like stopping the doors from auto-locking - which I hated - at no charge) and always check to see if there are any recalls or other information I should be aware of. However, in concurrence with other reviewers, I don't think I'd ever buy a car from these guys. Service only. More
I have taken my VW's in to this dealer a half dozen times or more over the last 4 years and have had poor experiences over and over again to the point where I will never go back to them for anything. I trie or more over the last 4 years and have had poor experiences over and over again to the point where I will never go back to them for anything. I tried to give them a second and third chance even though my inlaws have told me for a long time that they've had some horrible experiences there with their Touraeg. Most recently I took my 2003 Golf in for a 30K checkup and oil change. A day or two after I got the car home an engine light came on. I lifted the hood and noticed that the coolant filler cap had never been screwed onto the overflow reservoir, so all the coolant had boiled out of the coolant system, I nearly ran my car out of coolant! This is just the tip of the iceberg. Another occasion I brought my 2000 Jetta in to have the airbag light shut off/reset. They told me it would be $100 just to diagnose it, and another $100 to reset the light. Give me a break. So, reluctantly I paid the bill, and then at pick up (almost a week later than the car was originally promised to me), I picked up the car. They told me at the desk "well the mechanic reconnected the wiring harness to try and reset the airbag light so it may fix it and it may come on again, we don't know." This is what I get for $200? I stepped into the car and guess what, the airbag light is still on bright as day! I stormed back in to the desk and they said "Well if the light is on still, then you need a new airbag." What a waste of my time, did they do anything at all to try and fix it first, who knows! Another occasion I told them "your manager promised me a free oil change this visit due to my last bad experience". their response at the counter was "Well sir I don't see any record of that, you'll have to call him and talk to him he is not here today." Me talk to him? Why don't you go into his office and tell him the problem, and in the mean time give your customer the benefit of the doubt. Of course the next day I called the manager and he said "No sir, the comments were right in your history I don't know why they didn't see the notes for your free oil change, it's all right here." Unreal. The mechanics (at least a few of them, maybe not "all" of them) but at least some of them are completely incompetent and you can not trust what you are being billed for is actually being done on your vehicle. The people who work at the service department counter are clueless and really have no idea what they are talking about or what may or may not have actually been done to your car. One time for my Jetta's 70K checkup I asked them "so what exactly did you do on this service for $400? and they really didn't answer my question at all, they just looked blankly at the work order and couldn't run off all the details of what I just paid for. I will never bring my VW's to them ever again, nor will I trade anything in or buy from them no matter what. I will drive to Brookline, Wellesley, or Burlington instead and give these other dealers a chance for my business. More
Ran across this site and thought - hey, I wonder how the folks I just dealt with are ranked. Since I just bought a car, and had need of service, I shopped around and ended with Boston VW where my experience folks I just dealt with are ranked. Since I just bought a car, and had need of service, I shopped around and ended with Boston VW where my experience was top notch. Did they try to get the best price? Of course. But when I presented them with what I knew, what I was looking for, etc. they responded with what I considered to be a great deal. And when I had a problem shortly after driving off - they jumped on it - gave me a loaner - and fixed the issue completely. All the while, apologizing and ensuring me they'd right any wrong. Yes, I bought a new model but I don't know why I'd have received a different level of service than anyone else. Also, when I was waiting to pick up my car, I chatted with another guy who was as happy as I. In short, everyone there seemed extremely pleasant and all the customers looked very happy. I gotta think its only the rare exceptions with a gripe who hit this site and I say that's too bad and unrepresentive. Boston VW has earned my business for as long as I'm in town. And no - I don't know a sole there! More
I called the parts department to get a quote on a part that I needed. I was told that there were plenty of the part in stock and that it would cost $26. I went in the next morning to pick up the part an that I needed. I was told that there were plenty of the part in stock and that it would cost $26. I went in the next morning to pick up the part and was told that they did not have any in stock and that it would cost $248.95. I told them what I had been quoted the day before and the guy just stood there for a bit, and said no that $248.95 is the correct amount. I called another VW dealership later that day and was told that it would be $34. Interesting fluctuation in pricing by the Boston VW dealership. More
Brought a Used Passat wagon with 40,000 miles, 10,000 left on the warranty. One month after purchase, I noticed The windshield fluid was leaking, and one door lock was not working, so I brought it int left on the warranty. One month after purchase, I noticed The windshield fluid was leaking, and one door lock was not working, so I brought it into warranty service. The service person at my local VW dealer told me that a whole was sawed out oif the wheel housing, for some unknown reason, and that the fliud leak would not be covered under warranty because of this, it was assumed that a rock had gone throught the housing and caused the damage. Since I had the car one month, I felt I was sold a deffective car, and the dealer should help in some way this matter. Although Kyle appeared to be friendly, and said he would do what he could for any problems at the sale (We want you to be happy!), his attitude changed dramatically whan asked to help. He was saying things like "How do I know what happed to the car". It was he was accusing me of sawing a hole in my own car! And It's a "Used car", you should expect problems. (For what it is worth, I know used cars, I have a Subaru with 200,000 miles, still running, that I purchased with over 100,000 miles with less problems than than this VW Passat) Anyhow, from my experience, you can expect no help, unfriendly communications and a really bad feeling from Boston VW and Kyle. Remember, if you buy from these guys, and somehting goes wrong, their attitide is it's your fault. More
One of the WORST dealers I have EVER dealt with.
