Service department the past three times With an appointment has had me wait 5+ hours. They will not update you without you asking upfront and tell you, when you come it will be just a few hours. Now have 2020 RAV4 that was purchased at BillPenny and Delmon Davis has taken care of the servicing for me. My daughter bought a used vehicle with around 112k miles from them last year which is "as is". The vehicle was not a Toyota which perhaps compounds things. But before her 30 days were up, she came in to h from them last year which is "as is". The vehicle was not a Toyota which perhaps compounds things. But before her 30 days were up, she came in to have a LED light fixed and a tire that was leaking air and needed a patch which they did fix. She also mentioned that the check engine light was on. The mechanic helping her pulled the code and when she asked what the code meant, his response was I don't know. My daughter who is not a mechanic, pulled out her phone and googled the code with the mechanic standing there and it was for a Super charger bypass valve. She told the mechanic what she got, and his reply was, I don't know how to fix that. He cleared the code and told her to come back if it lights up again! Well, it did. Where is Bill Penny getting their mechanics from? ACNE? Perhaps even worse, there was no I am sorry I don't know how to fix this, or let me check with someone else, or I am sure if you take it to _______, I am sure they would know. Jump forward, 6 months. while driving on interstate, the car started making noises that a normal engine should make. She was able to pull it over after crossing 4 lanes of traffic. Another mechanic, (not Bill Penny I might add), found that the engine was toast! One piston's connecting rod somehow got bent, the piston head shattered (can't even find it), a small piece of the piston cylinder wall broke off and 3 valves were sucked in! Engine is toast. RIP I believe that if she had been given some direction from their mechanic, there would be no need for a new engine now. Interestingly, she tried calling them several times, but no one would even have the decency to call her back. On the other hand, I bet if she were calling to ask about buying a car, they would have quickly returned the call. She finally decided to come in and talk to someone that could help her in person. She spoke with the Used car sales director and all she got was, "I am sorry, I understand...", and "I agree that it was not right that the mechanic did not know what the code was". etc. He finally said that I suppose a gift card for $100 would not help. Ouch! That is like saying, lets open the wound and put some salt in it and then rub it in! I like the Toyota cars, but I will NEVER buy from Bill Penny in Huntsville! More
Bought my 2022 Toyota Tacoma in January, they charged well over MSRP! Brought in today 04/28/22 for a free oil change, two and a half hours later after going to the service desk to get my truck and leave well over MSRP!
