I live pretty far away, but I found my dream car on the Banks website so I gave them a call. I didn't want to drive hundreds of miles to see the car if they weren't going to hold it, so I explained my situ Banks website so I gave them a call. I didn't want to drive hundreds of miles to see the car if they weren't going to hold it, so I explained my situation. They explained that they couldn't technically hold the car, but I could put down a deposit on it over the phone and start the buying process, and then they wouldn't sell it to anyone else. This is admittedly a slightly risky prospect because if I decided I didn't want it then I wouldn't get my deposit back, but I was 99% sure I wanted the car, so it worked out great for me. The dealer I worked with (Andy) was super professional and kind, and he was even willing to negotiate the price over the phone before I made the drive there. Speaking of negotiations, it was quick and painless. In the past, when I've asked dealers to negotiate, they've left to talk to their supervisors for as long as 30 minutes! I believe this may be a bargaining tactic to get buyers to give in on negotiations so they can simply put the painful process behind them. With Banks, the negotiation was fast, painless, and fair. I left the conversation feeling like we'd all won... the hallmark of a good negotiation! Communication was clear and frequent, and their finance department helped me get set up before I even arrived. I was super impressed that they don't do any of their own financing; they work with local banks to help customers finance purchases. If you've ever bought a car from a dealership, you can see why this is a really big deal. Many dealerships will try to make back some of the money they "lost" during the negotiating phase on the financing by giving customers a higher interest rate or adding in fees. It's been my experience that most dealerships offer a higher rate than banks, so I've tried to use banks in the past to finance car purchases, but that process can be a little bit clunky because dealerships usually want you to use their own financing instead (see above). In this case, Banks Chevrolet-Cadillac facilitated the loan process with a local credit union and I got an unbelievably low interest rate. It was just as easy as when I'd financed through dealerships in the past, only this time... the loan terms were way better (even lower than my previous bank financing terms)! When I arrived to inspect and pick up the vehicle, I was thrilled. Not only was it exactly as described and pictured, it felt and drove like a new car (granted, it only had 14,000 miles on it). Overall, this is hands down the BEST experience I've ever had buying a car from a dealership EVER. These guys are super honest and they won't try to pull a fast one. If you find a car you like there, I highly recommend getting it because another dealer will charge you more (through hidden fees and financing). Good luck with your car purchase! More
