I have an unpleasant experience during my most recent visit to Bakersfield Hyundai. Please know I have been a LONG time Hyundai and Genesis customer. I have purchased three Hyundai vehicles and two Genes visit to Bakersfield Hyundai. Please know I have been a LONG time Hyundai and Genesis customer. I have purchased three Hyundai vehicles and two Genesis vehicles. I have always been satisfied with the quality and customer service I have received. However, this last visit was seriously disappointing. I brought my 2023 Hyundai Kona Electric in for service. I bought the vehicle in October 2022 and at that time believed I would get a $7500 tax rebate. However, at tax time learned that the Kona was not eligible because it was not manufactured in the US therefore it was exempt from the list. Of course, this was very upsetting. I noticed just before my service that Hyundai was offering a $7500 rebate on the Kona so I spoke to the on-duty manager about my issue and if they could do something for me considering I did not get the rebate. The manager said I couldn't do anything about my current contract but she indicated she could get me into a new Ionic for a LOWER payment I had on my Kona. I said, okay get me some numbers, and when I return to pick up my car, provide me with the numbers. When I came back, she indicated she was able to get me into the Ionic for just under what I was paying for my Kona. I took a test drive and I was sold. I agreed on the price, we shook hands and I thought it was a done deal. The manager had to leave but said finance and the salesman would take care of me. While we were waiting for financing to complete the paperwork, we switched out ALL of my property from the Kona to the Ionic, we transferred the blue link and Electrify America app to the new vehicle. Then the salesman received a call from finance that the deal was a NO GO! He could not do the deal the Manager set up. I have excellent credit, the deal was declined because too many incentives/rebates were applied to the deal and were not allowed. I spent the next half hour putting all of my property back into the Kona and drove home. I was told that we would be able to renegotiate the deal once the manager returned in two days. I was told it was still going to work. Now comes the part with service..... When I dropped my car off, Gilbert recommended I get a cabin filter for $60. Because the car was supposed to be traded in, the salesman went to service and told them it was going to be traded in so don't charge me for the cabin filter. On the drive home, after three hours at the dealership, I get a call from Gilbert demanding the money for the cabin filter. I explained the situation outlined above and said the car may still be traded in and I would know more in a couple of days. He told me sales and service are not the same division and he had to close out his invoices. At this point, I got frustrated and said I felt I was not being treated as a valuable customer and would pay the $60 despite the situation. I called sales and told them what happened with service and they immediately took care of it. Two days later, I was told the deal was not going to happen. So I still feel the original deal when I bought the Kona was a bad experience due to not receiving the $7500 rebate and then the above situation not only didn't fix the problem, but I lost half of a day of my time.
