I already knew some things that the car needed (new tail lights, top off wiper fluid, lower than expected oil, etc). I was going to do these myself after I had it serviced. Anyway, I got it in and they told me 2 hours wait time. No big deal. I waited almost 4 hours. No courtesy to even tell me they were behind or to update me. I literally had to ask the front desk what was going on with my car. Turns out it was already ready and no one communicated it to me and just left me waiting for 2 extra hours. I'm very patient, so again no big deal. I was expecting a quick explanation or walk-around of the car and then explaining what they did and what needs work, but nope. Didn't get any of that. I got a paper I was told to sign, sent outside and the mechanic who pulled it up gave me the keys without saying one word. No mention of the things the car needed, which would've been found out with a regular car workup. I even told them specifically that I needed wheel balancing, but they didn't do that either. This leads me to believe they didn't even check the car. At this point I was a bit irritated, but I was just happy to get home. Not even 15 minutes on my way to my house, the car suddenly stops in the middle of the freeway. I had enough momentum to pull over and stop at a busy intersection. I called up Hyundai and told them what had happened. I had to verbally coach the representative to offer me a tow back to the dealership. After it was towed back, I was given a 3 week estimate for an engine replacement that was apparently covered by the manufacturer. This was on July 6th. I called 2 weeks after and received the same estimate. On August 2nd, I received a text message explaining that the parts have come in and NOW they were going to start working on the car. No call in between for updates. No clarification that they needed to get parts first before they were going to work on the car and the 3 week estimate did not cover that. Just the bare minimum of a text message almost a month later. I received another text message on August 24th telling me that the car was ready for pick up and I picked it up the same day. I wholeheartedly believe that the Hyundai dealership completely messed up my car due to gross negligence (a potentially dangerous one at that) and covered it up saying it's a manufacturer recall of the engine and that it just seized "coincidentally" right after I had it serviced by them. They didn't even ask for the service records. Mind you my car had no previous mechanical issues prior to my visit at Hyundai. A simple online lookup of my VIN showed no recalls on my engine. I do have to give credit to Hyundai for replacing the engine and giving me a rent a car free of charge. This doesn't change or forgive what had happened. Overall, customer service is abysmal. Customer communication is abysmal. Car repair is abysmal. Courtesy is lackluster. I spoke with a representative when I came to pick my car up to ask if I had to come back for services at the dealership so the engine warranty is covered and I was assured I just needed to keep my service records and they will accept it if anything happens to the engine again. That gave me huge relief because I WILL NOT be coming back to this dealership again. For service or to buy a car. I will also advise anyone else to steer clear from Bakersfield Hyundai at all costs.
