This service department doesn’t appear to know about some extended warranties even though the specific warranty that I reference here was extended a year ago. My service advisor told me that BMW had some ty extended warranties even though the specific warranty that I reference here was extended a year ago. My service advisor told me that BMW had some type of fix for the lower radiator blinds, but after they tried to run this program, the blinds still did not work. He said that the cost to replace them would be $1,200. Having spent $838 on services, some of which I wasn’t sure were necessary, we declined to spend another $1,200 until we had another shop look at the lower radiator blinds. I had taken the car in because I needed an oil change and because the engine light was on. After okaying some of the extra services they recommended, I picked up the car with the engine light still on. The next week I took the car to a different shop who discovered that the blinds should be fixed by BMW free of charge due to an August, 2022 extended warranty. I paid them $100 for this information. Then I called to take the car back to the dealership to have the blinds replaced, and my service advisor couldn’t do this for two more weeks. So finally, on my third trip to have the repair the engine light indicated, the BMW dealership made the repair. I took the car in early and didn’t get to come after it until 5:30 even though I needed it back by 12:30. When they brought my car out, the engine light was still on, and it had to go back to have the light reset. I left the dealership at closing time in a dirty car, having missed dinner with my husband. They didn’t even bother to wash the car after causing myself and my husband such inconvenience. The service advisor blamed BMW for not letting them know about the extended warranty. My car is a 2019 740I with low mileage; it’s just hard to believe that this extended warranty wouldn’t be widely known in BMW shops. I wonder how many people have paid for the blinds that should have been free during this past year. Of note also, the other shop (Elite Motor Works) said that they noticed SIB 12 13 18 relating to a software update to fault code 21A02D that is stored in DME. My service advisor at BMW said this was not needed, but after all of the above, I wonder. In addition, after paying $156 for coolant service at the dealership the week before, Elite found that the coolant was a little low; so they topped it off. Furthermore, the dealership performed A/C evaporator foam cleaning for $136.50, but they didn’t replace the cabin air filter. It was last replaced a year ago. Elite also noticed things that should have been done during the 30,000-mile service were not done such as drive belt and tensioner, wiper blades, spark plug replacement…at least if any of these were done, they were not recorded. Elite reported that the engine oil cooler/filter adapter was leaking just one week after the dealership performed an oil change and coolant service. More
