I will call the General Manager tomorrow and explain the details of what happened. FYI, I also received a phone call from the Mountain View dealership, so they are clearly taking this seriously, as they should. The phone call suggested there was confusion, and I think likely so, but it was not on my part, as my fiancee was next to me during the process and confirmed that things happened exactly as stated above. Apparently CA now has I think a relatively new law that says if you buy a car in CA you have to pay CA sales tax, and I believe an approximately $250 road use fee to get it to the border. I was not told this by BMW Mountain View, but a day or two later when I was looking at cars at an Audi dealership nearby. Supposedly you can get a reimbursement on your taxes from your state for the difference if you file a Schedule A (or equivalent) in your home state. However due to the 10,000 limit on state tax deductions on federal taxes that is unrecoverable for me. I first started consider a new BMW about 5 or 6 years ago, right after I moved to AZ from CA (where I lived for 30 years). (I bought my first BMW (2005) in CA and did a Euro delivery and was looking forward to doing another.) I was not happy about an offer around 2015 from a dealer in AZ about the price for a Euro delivery (they wanted full sticker) and I called up my old dealership in Long Beach. At the time the Long Beach dealership said you pay tax on where you live, not where you buy it, which is why I think the CA "claw back" is new. CA is doing everything they can to get tax money for insane political policies, which is why I left CA right after I retired. (I could go on to a lot of other things like property sales tax (look into it), but this is the wrong forum.) FYI, all Euro delivers (which are great) are on hold due to COVID. And the X models are made in the US, so you can't do a Euro delivery on those. I really regret that COVID and my choice of a model not made in Europe eliminated a Euro delivery option.
