We arranged to purchase a 2023 X1 with Rocky Rigney on September 26 and completed all necessary pre-work beforehand, including securing financing through our preferred credit union, Westerra, and obtainin September 26 and completed all necessary pre-work beforehand, including securing financing through our preferred credit union, Westerra, and obtaining insurance coverage. Despite this preparation, the process took nearly two and a half hours because the dealership had not prepared the paperwork in advance and several errors in our information required correction. We were also told that the dealership needed to pull our credit, even though our financing had already been secured through Westerra, which had confirmed they would work directly with the dealership to secure the vehicle. While Rocky may have a strong sales record, our experience did not reflect the level of organization and customer service we expected from a BMW client advisor. When we completed the purchase, we discovered that at least 10 additional air fresheners had been placed throughout the vehicle, on top of the two already present. The odor was so overwhelming that it caused eye irritation. Prior to driving from Denver to Loveland, we specifically asked Rocky whether the vehicle had ever been smoked in, and he assured us it had not. When the excessive use air fresheners was questioned, Rocky explained that the previous owner had left the vehicle with an “interesting scent” and that the detail department added the air fresheners in an attempt to neutralize it. However, the strong odor in the vehicle is clearly coming from the air fresheners themselves. Since purchasing the car, it has remained parked in our garage with the windows down with minimal improvement. From our perspective, this raises serious concerns about transparency during the sales process. The use of numerous air fresheners appears to have been an attempt to mask an underlying odor, and no one at the dealership was forthcoming about this issue before the sale. As a result, the experience feels deceptive and has significantly diminished our confidence in the purchase Beyond the odor issue, we were also disappointed to discover that one of the two keys provided with the vehicle did not function due to a dead battery. This seems like a basic quality control item that should have been tested and resolved before the vehicle was presented for sale. Combined with the other concerns we've experienced, this oversight further undermines our confidence in the condition and preparation of the vehicle. This entire experience has been extremely disappointing and has fallen well short of the standards we expected from a BMW dealership. Given the concerns regarding the vehicle's odor, the lack of transparency surrounding it, and the non-functioning key, I am hopeful that BMW will work with us to resolve these issues. Specifically, we would appreciate an extended warranty on the vehicle as well as assistance in arranging for the vehicle to be professionally detailed and treated at a BMW location in the Denver area. Doing so would go a long way toward restoring our confidence in both the vehicle and the customer experience. More
