Absolutely perfect customer service. This dealer presents exactly what buying a luxury vehicle should be, responsive, friendly, and fair. Dan Rykiel and Dave Mier are class acts, very honest, and get things done. We were on a time crunch because of an impending trip, they used an existing production number to get us our X5 in roughly two weeks. The negotiation was extremely honest and fair and these two were extremely responsive but never pushy. Honestly can say that they saved the brand for me because after another experience at a different BMW dealer, I was ready to just forget about BMW. So kudos to them and we will definitely go back to get our next vehicle from them in a three years. More
I recently purchased a very good condition BMW, C330Ci with 87,000 miles. I'm not new to exotic cars, not that a 330 is exactly exotic. However, I decided to have the car inspected, including the state with 87,000 miles. I'm not new to exotic cars, not that a 330 is exactly exotic. However, I decided to have the car inspected, including the state inspection, and an oil service done at BMW of Annapolis. I was not expecting any issues with the car, it had just passed a Virginia State inspection. I expected the dealership to have the experience, integrity, and common sense approach that a larger upscale market car dealership should have. Wrong! I could not have had a worse experience. I dropped the car off, nothing unusual here, except the rather cold and sterile environment of the service reception area. I put my key in an envelope and gave it to a rather disinterested person at the counter. No big deal, I figured it was the end of a long day as it was after 6:00PM when I dropped it off. The next day I get a call from the dealership representative. I was greeted by a guy whom was ill prepared and began by telling me, in a painful and difficult to extract the exact details kind of way, what was failing on the state inspection. I was told the front windshield needed replacement. I was a bit surprised by this. It did have one small stone chip on the passenger side, which was not even visible from the driver’s seat. Apparently the cracks radiating from that chip were slightly larger than the maximum 1/2” allowed by Maryland. All right, so I ask the rep, can I have it fixed, or do I have to change the windshield? He had no idea. Where can I get fixed? He has no idea? He then tells me their are other issues. He moves onto the brakes and he tells me my car needs a complete brake job. I ask what is failing as I had looked at the pads, the rears looked new and the fronts still had at least half the original pad left from my observation. I also told him the brake sensors had not tripped. He says the disks are below minimums? I say fine, how much to fix. He has no idea, puts me on hold for ten minutes and comes back with a price of $1400. I say what else, to which he says “oh, one of the rear shocks needs replacing as it is leaking”. Really, what else? He says the rear window has aftermarket tint that is just failing inspection and needs to come off. I ask any idea where I can get this done? He says no. Great, I’ll pick the car up and take care of repairing it. I ask him how long do I have to avoid having to get the car re-inspected. He says 30 days. I say great, I'll get on it and bring it back. Based on what he told me, I order two rear shocks, a set of rotors, pads, and brake sensors. I have the front windshield, replace and find a shop that removes the rear tint. Once I get the brake parts and shocks, I put the car up on my lift. Yes I have a lift, as I am a car enthusiast and use the lift to service my Ferrari, as well as other cars I own. I look over the brake components and wonder why I’m doing a brake job on a car that has excellent brakes. I check the rotors and find the rotors are not out of spec. I'm not happy about this, but I have the parts that I've paid for, and decide to do the brake job anyway. Perhaps, since my micrometer is not calibrated, maybe it is off a bit. But this is really splitting hairs. So be it, I do the brake job. Once I finish, I take the rotors and have them measured by a machine shop with a calibrated digital micrometer that reads out in millimeters and the results were as follows, these are the lowest numbers found - Front Minimum is - 23.4mm Actual of Front rotor #LF = 23.42 Actual of Front rotor #RF = 23.43 Rear Minimum is - 20.4mm Actual of Rear rotor #LR = 20.60mm Actual of Rear rotor #RR = 20.57mm Alright, I am now not very happy that these were failed. These are huge rotors for a small car and even though the rotors are near the manufactures limit, they did not fail and represented no danger of malfunctioning at the modest highway speeds you can operate a car in Maryland. I am not tracking the car. It would have been appropriate for the dealership to advice me of condition, but it was not appropriate for these to fail the state inspection when they were in speck. So, that leaves just the rear shocks. Well, while doing the brake job I checked the rear shocks. I guess BMW of Annapolis just figured they would rustle some extra business out of me, because there were no fluids leaking from either shock. This really infuriates me. The point of the Maryland inspection is to ensure the car is safe for the road, it is not supposed to return the car to "as new", or be an opportunity for the dealer to try to sell you some things you don’t need. The cars rear shocks were fine, performing properly, and the car was handling well on the road. So, I had a bone to pick with BMW of Annapolis on this. By the way, the exact wording for inspecting of rear shocks in the Maryland code is – Reject if “Severe leakage (not light dampness) is present”. Well that is pretty specific and certainly not the case with my 330Ci. There was no dampness or severe leakage. With everything on the inspection list that had failed now repaired or replaced, except the phony failure of the rear shocks, I scheduled with BMW of Annapolis to have my 330Ci re-inspected. I arrived back at the dealership and went over my concerns with the previous inspection, the fact that the rotors were in spec, the fact that I found no leaking fluid from the rear shocks, and the fact the dealer representative had no estimates for repair when he called me. I was told by the BMW rep that the inspector’s word is “God” and maybe he had wiped off the leaking oil from the shock, or maybe it all leaked out. Hum, you know, I’m an engineer and have worked on cars all my life. That is about the stupidest statement I've ever herd from a car repair facility. Or maybe his "God" healed it when he touched it. Anyway, it leaves me feeling the dealership is pushing the envelope and trying to capture extra work when they clearly knew no such work was required. This is deceptive and dishonest and I told him so. He said, how can I regain your business and trust. I said just inspect the car for the repairs, and if the inspector (God) still felt the shocks had an issue, please have him come get me and show me the problem. I will wait on the car. In about a half hour the rep came to me and said that the car would need to have a complete new inspection because I had gone over 1000 miles since they did the inspection. Yes, it was over by 400 miles. I’m dumbfounded. He tells me they have to charge me for another inspection, and that they need the car for three to four hours. At this point, I’ve had it with BMW of Annapolis and ask for my keys and leave. What really makes me mad is I asked them when I picked the car up on the fist visit how long I had to do the repairs. They told me 30 days, but never mentioned the 1000 miles. All right, I know the intention of the law, but the inspection was just done less than three weeks ago and was only 400 miles over. If they had half a brain, they could have done the re-inspection, quickly, without even mentioning this issue and not charged me. That’s if they had any concerns for keeping me as a customer. Obviously they don’t. I guess they really needed the sixty five bucks, or was it they did not want to deal with the issue of the shocks? I had the car inspected at another shop, and no surprise; they found no issue with the car or the rear shocks. I ask the shop, are you sure the rear shocks are not leaking? He said not at all, and even quoted the state standard, "no severe leaks". I'm surprised he knew that. What really infuriates me is not so much that I just did a brake job that I could have put off until the weather was a bit nicer, it's that BMW of Annapolis chose to try to use a state inspection to extort some business out of me. This is more than dishonest, it is immoral, and illegal. I intend to pursue this, to report this, and to tell everyone that is remotely interested to avoid this dishonest dealer. If anyone doubts the validity of my clams in this matter, the rotors, pads, and rear shocks are available for inspection. Why do dealerships have to be dishonest, when if they where honest, they would get more than enough honest work? If you know BMWs, you know they need plenty of legitimate repairs. Ultimate my butt! Incidentally, I'm not sure why BMW of Annapolis needs three to four hours to do a state inspection. Every other shop I called said around an hour. On Maryland's web page they say it should take no more than 1 1/2 hours. Draw your own conclusions. I'm thinking you need time to go on treasure hunts. Avoid BMW of Annapolis, especially the service department, or proceed at your wallets peril. You've been warned. There is a reason they are rated last of the five BMW dealers in my area by DealerRater. More

My date of service 1/17/2012: I read reviews of Anap BMW service for the first time today and could not agree more with what another reviewer (vahidsedghi) wrote. Do NOT Go there for service. I have an 03 X service for the first time today and could not agree more with what another reviewer (vahidsedghi) wrote. Do NOT Go there for service. I have an 03 X5 and the last time I used them for service 2 yrs ago I swore I would never go back after they put on a thousand dollars worth of new tires and did not replace the valve stems and I subsequently had a blowout due to the valve stem being dry rotted. I had to go directly to the GM, Bill Bennetts with that issue. I made the huge mistake of giving the service department another shot last week (1/17/2012). I commute 60 miles each way to work and have noticed over the last year that I have slight vibration both when I am driving and when sitting still in my steering wheel, seat and under my feet. I took it to a non dealer shop that only works on BMW a week earlier to check on the vibration and they looked over everything, to include tire pressure, brakes, calipers and anything that might cause a vibration. They could not find anything wrong, but said I needed to replace the control arm and bushing that had been previously noted as bad and it should hopefully fix the vibration. The repair was 288.00 so I had it fixed, however I still had the vibration so thought I would try Annap BMW to get another opinion. I told the service writer (Alen) about my vibration, that it had been happening for a year, it pulled slightly to the right at times, and that I thought maybe I was imagining it and it may be the age of my vehicle that I am feeling. He did not have a shop guy available since it was almost 4:30 to drive the car and no loaner available for me to leave it to be looked at the next morning. Another man (not sure of his title), came out from his office and said he could find a shop guy to drive the car, which he did. I asked the service writer if I could ride with the shop guy to show him the noise and he said no, that he would be able to feel it and know what it is. The shop guy came back 20 mins later saying I had a stuck left caliper, but filled out the current vehicle condition report with all checks in the green sections that reflect very good. There were several men around and they all began the scare tactic of telling me that it was dangerous to drive my car and that the rotor would burn up due to the caliper sticking and it could catch on fire and then the service writer jumped up from his seat and miraculously found a loaner car available to give me since the cost for this stuck caliper was 1400.00 (the front brakes, rotors, pads, etc. all had to be replaced as well). I told them that I have been driving the car with this vibration for a year and really don't think that's the issue, but they were adamant that it was. And yes, the cost (1400.00) is high, but I have no problem paying if it would fix the vibration. Also note that I have the pre condition of my car worksheet stating that my front brakes and rotors were brand new. I had just replaced them all, so am now paying for all new parts again. They told me their rule is to replace everything (brakes, rotors, pads on front) when a caliper is replaced. We went back to the shop area to get my belongings from my car and the shop guy turned my front left tire showing me what he considered to be stuck. The wheel turned slowly, but that can be faked and I should have turned it myself, but again, as long as the vibration was fixed, I was fine with the repair. I told the service writer and shop guy that I will have an issue if it still vibrates when I pick it up and they assured me that the caliper was the problem and a new one would take care of the vibraton. I picked up my car the next day and it had the EXACT same vibration as before, nothing at all was different about how the car felt when driving it or sitting still. I called the service writer immediately and told him i would be back in 2 days when I was in the area again to discuss. When I went back I was told by the serviice writer to ride with the shop foreman, which I did. The shop foreman said the vibration I am feeling is definitely not a caliper. He said most likely the age of the car, which is what I thought in the first place. I asked what a stuck caliper feels like and he said the car shakes and the steering wheel would shake and it would pull to the side of the stuck caliper. I told them my car slightly pulled to the right and the caliper they replaced is on the left, very shady. Also, very shady that they wouldn't let me go on the test ride with the shop guy to make sure he understood the noise I was referring to. I was then taken to Steve Daly, the service managers office. There were two other men in addition to Steve in his office that all basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. They flat out told me I had a stuck caliper and that is what they fixed. I raised my voice as I began telling them that I don't believe I had a stuck caliper at all or I would not have been able to drive the car for so long. I told him it was not shaking as the foreman told me it would have with a stuck caliper and definitely would have pulled to the left, which id did not. THIS CAR WAS 100% DRIVABLE and bottom line, as I told them, they DID NOT fix the problem I brought the car in for. They fixed a made up problem or whatever was the easiest to diagnose for the most money. All the service manager did for me at that point was tell me he didn't appreciate being yelled at and that they fixed a stuck caliper and told me to have a nice day. I walked out, my car still vibrates just like it had for the past year and the service manager could have cared less! I called BMW NA and made a formal complaint. Anap BMW makes up problems to get your money and are very shady. Do not go to them for service, please look at all the lousy service reviews from this dealership before you waste your money! More
I was looking for a second car for my business. Since that meant I was looking for a used car, I thought a BMW would be the best due to its resell value, reliability and performance. Even though I that meant I was looking for a used car, I thought a BMW would be the best due to its resell value, reliability and performance. Even though I was looking for a used car, the professional treatment I received from BMW in Annapolis was top notch, beginning with my phone call to the dealership and ending with the delivery of the vehicle. They have a well thought out process for scheduling you for an appointment, bringing you together with your sales consultant, and closing the deal. At every stage of the process I felt like everyone at that dealership was operating like a well conducted orchestra. Even though the car I had come to see was no longer available, my sales consultant took the time to get to know my car needs, my likes, dislikes, etc.. By the time we had concluded our "chat", he had a pretty good idea what I would be looking for. Needless to say, he found the most perfect vehicle for me! It was perfect in every sense from color, to type, price, and benefits. He test drove the vehicle with me, explaining features as we drove along, offered additional points here and there, advising me of things I would need to pay attention to during my ownership of the vehicle. Closing the deal was equally pleasurable. The financial folks were swift, thorough and professional. It was definitely the experience I would expect from a BMW dealership! More
