We weren't sure what we wanted and shopped at more than 10 different dealerships. When we arrived at BMW of Ann Arbor, Alex Upshur greeted us. After about 30 minutes, and before even test driving a car, I realized that we would most likely be buying a car through Alex. As I told him that day, he was the first car salesmen we had met that really knew the products he was selling. Alex was able to answer every technical question we had. He was enthusiastic, obviously a true fan of BMW. But most importantly, Alex was calm, polite, and low pressure - a pleasure to work with. Once we test drove a car...well, that was it - we were hooked. It has now been two months since purchasing a 2011 BMW 328i xdrive, and my wife still loves it. We have also had excellent experiences with the service department. Dusty Harrison and the rest of the service staff that I have met so far have impressed me with their knowledge and professionalism. I initially met Alex by chance looking through the Ann Arbor BMW car lot for a high quality, good value car to replace my wife's 12 year old Volvo. As luck would have it, Alex came out to help. He was unassumingly present, knowledgeable and kind. There was not a moment of 'car salesman' in the experience. He was patient with questions and reassuring with answers. Within the week we purchased a wonderful 328i that my wife loves. I was so pleased with Alex's professionalism and kindness, I went to see him to look at the possibility of replacing my 10 year old Passat some time in the future. He guided me through a no-pressure tour of vehicle possibilities and options we both thought might suit my specific needs. When I told him I wasn't ready he just smiled and said he'd be there when I was. Only days later, the engine in my Passat gave out while driving at highway speeds, leaving me stranded roadside on a Friday afternoon of a long weekend. As I waited hours for a tow truck to arrive, I called Alex and told him my predicament. He said he just received a fully loaded, beautiful X3 that he felt would be perfect for me and would hold it until I could get there the following morning. I have now purchased two wonderful vehicles from Alex and my wife and I are thrilled with both our cars and most particularly the followup service and patient attention that Alex never seems to run short of. Although its not likely we will buy another car for quite a while, Alex's kindness, willingness to help every step of the way and professional demenor is one of the key reasons we are so happy with our purchases and look forward to continuing our relationship. Based on my first experience with Eric, I returned to this dealership primarily to work with him. I found Eric to be friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about BMWs in general as well as the many options specific to a particular model. Eric understands performance-oriented enthusiasts and why they gravitate to BMWs. I am continuing to refine what car I will acquire, which currently appears to most likely be a BMW. I have purchased BMWs from various dealerships in the region before and was always quite happy with sales and service. Justin worked with me on closing the deal and was knowledgeable, courteous and responsive. Other dealerships I was working with at the same time were not quite as cooperative as BMW of Ann Arbor. Excellent! Brendan Byrne - the business manager - was also a pleasure to work with when we picked up the car. Great experience. Follow up AFTER the purchase is not something you see often. My wife and I were introduced to Mr. Alexander Upshur, my new confidant in car purchasing. He sat us down to discuss my interests in BMW and made us feel very at home. I had previously built the car online to my design and when he ordered it, it was exactly the way I wanted it, no pressure to add extra features. I received my car a few weeks later from Germany, where it was built, and I'm still blown away by the 435i xDrive and my experience since I've made this purchase. Brendan, the financing manager, was also a pleasure to work with. He was also very friendly and made the entire experience very smooth. On my first visit to BMW, after a long and frustrating search for a car to meet my specifications, I was fortunate to meet Alex Upshur. Through a number of visits, he was endlessly patient--listening to me, answering my questions, giving me all the time I needed to think about things and finally building the car that met my needs and wants. At delivery he spent a great deal more time setting up the satellite radio and navigation system and explaining all the "bells and whistles" to a somewhat technologically phobic senior citizen. He has continued to be available as I get to know the car and have further questions. It was a pleasure to work with Alex. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a positive buying experience.
