When it came time to drive off, Paul took the time to not just explain how to set up the satellite radio, but waited with me as we went through the process (which included being put on hold by Sirius for an extended period of time). He helped me sync my cell phone to the vehicle and even walked me through the process of programming my garage opener. This is in contrast to other dealers that won't let you drive the car off the lot and then only allow you to drive a preset course with the salesman (e.g. BMW of Annapolis). After the test drive Paul and I communicate by email several times and talked about incentives and pricing. When the November cash rebate incentive was announced I decided to make my move. I met with Paul briefly on my way home from work to talk price and to understand the ordering process. Paul was very helpful in explaing the process as well as explaining the delivery options (European Delivery, Performance Driving School Delivery). I came back the next day at lunchtime and after a short negotiation we agreed on a price and ordered the car. Paul was very helpful and professional and very enthusiastic about the product. As brief background, when I first walked into the BMW of Arlington dealership a couple of months ago, I went in STRICTLY for a test drive on the new 5 Series because I'd already decided to purchase the car elsewhere. Well, what a difference an excellent salesperson can make!! Paul actually told me about features on my old car that I didn't even know the car had! Still, I wasn't an easy sell because of my loyalty to my former dealer in the NYC metro area from whom I'd purchased my last two vehicles (I now live in Alexandria). Your Car Guy Paul really listened to what I was looking for in my next vehicle and he matched my needs effectively without a hard sell. In the end, it was Paul's ability to listen to me and customize the purchase to fit my needs that made the real difference. I have to say that everyone I met at BMW of Arlington's sales division was very friendly and courteous on each of my visits. But 'Your Car Guy' Paul really has a great way with people that made the car-buying process even better for me - a woman who prefer to handle things on her own. Before I scheduled a test drive, I had a number of questions about the car I had been researching, and Paul answered them quickly, thoroughly, and honestly. When I arrived for my test drive, Paul did not keep me waiting and did not waste my time. He was very friendly, and again, he answered all of my questions. Much to my surprise, Paul suggested that I take the test drive without him or anyone else in the car, and he allowed me plenty of time to give the car a complete road test. Paul was certainly good at pitching the benefits of a BMW, but at no time did I feel he was giving me an overly aggressive sell. When I was clear about what options I did and didn't want, Paul was informative about the options without trying to push me into packages I didn't need. The process of negotiating a price for the car was pleasant and respectful -- much less painful than my previous car buying experiences had been. After I put a down payment on the car, and while I was waiting for it to arrive in the States, Paul even provided me a very nice loaner for a special event I went to! In short, Paul went out of his way to make me a happy customer, and I definitely am one. While most of my interaction with the BMW of Arlington staff was with Paul Blakeman, everyone else I dealt with there was also very pleasant and professional.
