We have a 10th gen civic with the faulty AC system. AC died about a week ago, took it in to have it diagnosed due to the possibility of it being the condenser or compressor shaft seal, both covered und AC died about a week ago, took it in to have it diagnosed due to the possibility of it being the condenser or compressor shaft seal, both covered under extended warranties through Honda. Right away the advisor says “I can tell you it’s almost never those two things”. Crazy considering it’s a widespread issue warranting a service bulletin and an extended warranty. Anyway, it’s there being diagnosed and we get a call saying it’s the evaporator core, that it “has a couple spots on it”, this is a $2500 repair through them so I do it myself instead. Knock that out, look at the evaporator core I pulled out and it’s fine. Holds pressure and no UV dye anywhere on it, or signs of a leak. At least I have a new evaporator. So the diagnosis was a $2500 guess. Anyway, I pull vacuum to see if we’re good now and there’s still a leak in the system at the same rate that they said it was leaking. So I run diag on it myself and try to find a leak, guess what? There’s an audible hissing hole in the condenser. The part that’s covered under extended warranty that “is almost never the issue”. I would love to talk to service about this but I have been calling for two days now to talk to any person available and have been told “no one is available but we’ll give your name to someone and have them call you back”. Fun times, hopefully I can hear back from them eventually. More
