AutoFair was fair on my trade in value, but I was definitely lured in with a low online price offering very competitive financing rates. What you see online is definitely not what you get, so buyer beware. I was able to get better pricing at two other dealerships, so I did not buy from AutoFair. More

Classic Bate and Switch on Trade in Value I went to the Autofair VW web site to seek out the trade value for my car, a low mileage 2018 Golf R. I got back estimates ranging from $33k (clean) I went to the Autofair VW web site to seek out the trade value for my car, a low mileage 2018 Golf R. I got back estimates ranging from $33k (clean) to $34.3k (outstanding). My car objectively falls within the description of those two ranges. To be sure that this wasn’t a gimmick, I emailed the dealership to ensure this offer was legit before I drove 60 miles to Autofair. I exchanged emails with Camie Johnson who assured me the estimates provide in the email “will stand”, and that I should see the used car manager Jean Turgeon at 10 am the next day. I showed up at 10 and found Mr. Turgeon to be quite abrupt and ill prepared. He had no knowledge of my email, and said over and over that he just got in. I’m not exactly sure why he wasn’t prepared as I had scheduled the appointment, but he nevertheless took a few minutes to look at the car, looked at his computer, and told me my trade was worth $31,000 – between $2k and $3.3k less than the offer I received on the internet. His explanation was that the numbers in the email were dealer retail. This is wrong for two reasons. First, the Edmunds estimate I received from the dealership clearly states that it’s the TRADE value of the car, not private party or dealer retail. Secondly, Ms. Johnson emails from the previous evening confirmed that those were the range of trade values I can expect. I wasted an entire morning because I fell for the shameful bate and switch perpetrated by this dealership. Bottom line - DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU RECEIVE ONLINE FROM THESE HOOLIGANS. More
