Update to the glowing 5-star review when I bought the car (end result: I would buy from them again as their deal was fair, the staff friendly up front, and they are highly rated…however, I would be far more (end result: I would buy from them again as their deal was fair, the staff friendly up front, and they are highly rated…however, I would be far more mindful and dot every “I,” cross every “t,” and question EVERYTHING)…read their negative reviews and see their price shifting and pushing of extended auto warranties is a recurring theme. Summary: - best case scenario: I intentionally bought a warranty for a low mileage Toyota Prius for $3,450, forgot, was reminded by the bank, decided to cancel, met misinformation from dealership finance office, got clarification from the warranty company, then given a run around by the dealership to resolve once I provided the information to resolve the issue. - worst case scenario: make your own conclusion, because I’m not about to accuse them of wrongdoing. - likely reality: somewhere between the two More details: 1. I will not cast aspersions of wrongdoing, because they were very pleasant to work with and (after finding out the price on another website, trucar?, was the lowest price after all possible rebates and not the actual price) we made what I felt was a good deal and I was content. 2. Wow, I should have read the negative reviews. Yikes! Talk about painting a place in a bad light! Granted the dealership pricing showing on other websites (like TruCar) is misleading, that is not their fault, despite them benefiting from the error. 3. Always read the fine print, even when something is “explained” to you. I know I know to do this, but I was excited and just signing away on a reasonable deal… 4. I’m the dumb dumb who didn’t review and didn’t follow up, but I feel I was misled when I called to resolve the issue. That is my biggest point of contention. Anyway: My bank called to set up the online account and mentioned a $3,450 extended auto service contract. Hmm. Interesting. I called the dealership to cancel the $3,450 auto contract, figuring they’d still get credit for the sale, I’d have a small pro-rated drop to the $3,450 and possibly a cancellation fee…not a problem, they were good on sales, pleasant, the deal was decent, so I figured this would be a quick and easy resolution. (Hint: it wasn’t) Anyway, I call and speak to John/Jon in finance and he lets me know that he remembered the transaction (great! Let’s get this cancelled!). Nope, he tells me that the contract cannot be cancelled because it has been over 30 days. Excuse me? I asked for the auto contract company name (National Auto Care), and called them. My address was not correct and they didn’t have my email address, which explains why I never received anything from them and had no reason to believe it was purchased. I asked the representative about cancellation, and they went through the fine print with me. Page 7, section 10 allows for cancellations any time with a small cancellation fee. Wonderful! I call John/Jon back to tell him the good news, and he tells me that the paperwork is not at the dealership and instead with accounting and he would make sure to review it and be in touch. No email and no call, so I called the dealership again today to ask for a manager. My irritation is that I should not have to go through hoops to cancel something. I realize I am far from their only customer, but if they’re too busy to resolve this issue they either need to hire more people or scale back so they aren’t stretched so thin that they have customers feeling misled or like they’re going through hoops to accomplish a simple task that would bring satisfaction.
