In October 2020, I was T-boned when leaving Publix on a grocery store run for my homebound mother. Fortunately, neither I nor the lady that hit me were injured, but she did about $3600 worth of body damag grocery store run for my homebound mother. Given the age of the car, even though it ran perfectly well, no engine damage at all, they totalled my car. (If you think you own your car, think again, you will be told you must sell it and for how much by the insurance companies and the laws of the state!) So I found myself in the middle of COVID needing to expose myself to salespeople who, by necessity (bless them!), deal with the general public, and not wanting to do that at all! I wanted to use a car buying service and suddenly remembered that I was a AAA member & that they offered this service (I don't think you have to be a member to use this service however). I filled out the request form and boy am I glad I did!! I received a call and email from Nelson Baucom soon afterwards and he ended up being the biggest help I could imagine. All I had to do was do enough research to tell him what make and model that I wanted, and what extras I wanted & was willing to pay for, and my color preferences, and he found it for me. I even went by his office because he had an older model of what I wanted that I could sit in and take for a short drive to evaluate. I couldn't promise that would be always available, but I was buying a fairly common model (RAV4), and one that AAA relies upon for their business, which was a good recommendation. For a small fee of $225, the car I wanted was delivered to my house by Charlie, who was awesome, and sat with me in my new car for at least a half hour and gave me a tutorial so I could understand all the technology. Let's just say things have changed since 2002! Then he sat at my dining room table, mask on, and walked me through the paperwork, which didn't take very long. They even collected the NC tax due to the DMV and transferred my tag to the new vehicle, which means....I don't have to take a day off work and stand in line with a mask on all day at the DMV. What a score!! I bought a car and didn't leave my house. WINNING!! Nelson dealt with all my emotion over losing my beloved Solara and got me into a fabulous new vehicle. Plus the vehicle was discounted by several thousand dollars off the sticker price. They can even get financing for you. I cannot recommend AAA and particularly Nelson Baucom enough. If you're thinking about it, stop....and pick up the phone or email them to get started. I cannot imagine you ever regretting it. More
