I drove 1 hour to DeHaven Chevrolet 12-2-2024 in Fort Wayne Ind to purchase a New 2024 Silverado 1500 that I saw online. When I arrived they couldn’t they find that particular truck. Eventually the Sales Wayne Ind to purchase a New 2024 Silverado 1500 that I saw online. When I arrived they couldn’t they find that particular truck. Eventually the Salesman Brandon came back and said that truck is in the Service Dept getting a brand new engine. So I found another 1500 in the showroom, started the paperwork and my 2017 Silverado 2500 HD trade in. This was a Monday, told Brandon I needed running boards and a hard tonneau cover installed before we leave for Florida on Sunday. He said no problem, the parts usually come in 1-2 days and would work me into Service for installation. I said ok then let’s do the deal. The parts didn’t arrive until Friday at 1:00. I headed to DeHaven, 45 minutes into my hour drive, I got a message from Brandon asking if I could bring my checkbook, apparently the finance guy Cruze made a mistake and I owe $5,000, “ Our Bad “, 4 days after I wrote a check for the balance and drove my new truck home. I told him I left my house 45 minutes ago. I arrived Brandon took my new truck into the Service Dept. I told them I could give them my credit card or when I get home I can put a check in the mail. He went and talked to Cruze, came back and said you probably don’t just want to sit around and wait, how about we give you a loaner and you can drive back home and get your checkbook and come back. Although pretty upset I went ahead and made the 2 Hour round trip to my house and back. My new truck was finished waiting out front when I got back. Went in to see Cruze and told him “you owe me Big Time”, I’ve spent 4 hours on the road today. Gave him the $5,000 check. Went out to check my new truck. While walking around and looking at the tonneau cover where it meets the tailgate, I noticed a large Gap from the middle of the gate to the left side getting a lot larger. I pointed this out to Brandon, which he said that’s normal they are not supposed to be waterproof. I told him I’ve had 2 other Silverados with tonneau covers and the others did fit tightly. When I got home in the dark and pulled into my garage I started looking at the cover closely. At the very front of the bed I noticed the weatherstripping looked like someone Drunk installed the weatherstripping under the cover. It wasn’t even close to being straight. So wavy there was a gap in the middle that water could easily get inside, it looked like as if it was the 1st time for someone Ever installing a tonneau coverp. I drove 20 minutes into Indiana from Ohio to a Hardware store to get some new rubber weatherstripping. I opened to cover and found 2 pieces that the Service tech apparently just threw inside the bed like left over pieces, or the tech just didn’t want to complete the job. One was a critical piece, a black threaded knob that holds the rod up on the right side when the cover is folded completely back. Now I am very worried about taking my truck back to DeHaven for service or repairs. So I went on YouTube and found an installation video for the exact model of cover. I took the whole Tonneau cover off and the horrible weatherstripping. Installed the new weatherstripping Straight, and the tonneau cover. This time the cover fit tightly to the tailgate as it should without any gaps. A Professional looking installation. I feel what really pissed me off was Not getting a “Thank you for saving my Butt” from Cruze after driving a 2 hour round trip to make right his mistake! I sent pics and a video of the elementary installation of the tonneau. He said I will get a call from the Service Manager tomorrow, I asked that the Owner Jane DeHaven also call me. The Service Manager did call me and said she saw the pics and heard everything and would talk with the tech, and that this was unacceptable. I Also asked her to have the owner Jane call me, as of 12-28-2024 I’m still waiting for that call. Needless to say my experience at DeHaven was far less than Stellar ! More
