Time for my daughter to obtain her own vehicle. Went through looking, finding, and finally deciding what she liked and wanted. Although not a new vehicle, nor an Audi, we began doing paperwork. Upon review of the final documents I put a stop to the process. Not having been there for several years, I was unaware that they started adding a RecovR device and deemed it mandatory. Just over $1200 for the unit. They claimed it helps to recover the vehicle faster after it is stolen. That may be true, but isn't that why we have insurance? The doors/windows lock also when we leave it parked.
To add to this, where I live we leave our vehicles unlocked and never worry about this.
I did some research online and found the company that makes these devices charges nothing to the dealerships provided they sell a minimum number of them within a time period. The time to install the unit is the same as opening the passenger door, glove box, drop the unit inside and close previously opened doors. Less than a minute. Not sure if the buyer ends up paying for the $4 per month subscription that RecovR charges, but that could very well be included in the $1200 purchase cost. Also the battery is said to last 3 years. What happens then? Two things come to mind, more charges and also another tracking device to keep tabs on people. The latter of which is probably already in the vehicle because it also has satellite radio capability.

It is true, all of our vehicles have an anti-theft system installed which can be purchased for an additional cost or removed from the vehicle at the time of sale. It is not mandatory and very easy to remove so I apologize if there was some confusion on this during your purchase experience.
