Excellent customer service John Scilling is an excellent customer service associate. He got us a great deal on a Honda Accord. Refused to cover $5 part under warranty I am writing this review primarily because, on my very first service visit to Riverside Honda yesterday, their service department refused to cover a $ I am writing this review primarily because, on my very first service visit to Riverside Honda yesterday, their service department refused to cover a $5 part under warranty. We just bought an almost 3-year old Accord at a local used car dealer, and took it to Riverside Honda hoping that they would identify any issues that needed to be addressed under warranty before the warranty expired in a few weeks. After waiting over a half-hour to get checked in, we learned that we had to pay for a full synthetic oil change that we didn't actually need (oil life was at 80%) in order to get a basic inspection. When the car was ready a couple hours later, the only issue they identified was a $5 part (a clip on the hood rod) which was broken. However, they refused to cover it under warranty, claiming that it was broken due to "outside influences." I asked how they know that, and the best explanation they could come up with was that, if the part was defective, they would see more of them like that. That didn't strike me as a particularly persuasive explanation, much less a good approach to customer service, but you can judge for yourself. If I were running that service department, I think I probably could have persuaded myself to cover that $5 part under warranty, if for no other reason than to make a good first impression and build some goodwill. More
