In mid-december our 2008 328i developed a pretty loud knocking sound in the engine area and I had it towed to Hendricks BMW. After they had evaluated it, they sent me a video showing what they had found knocking sound in the engine area and I had it towed to Hendricks BMW. After they had evaluated it, they sent me a video showing what they had found with a diagnosis and estimated repair cost. They said the failure was in the AC pump and it could be replaced for about $3800. This was a shock.but we were not ready to buy a new vehicle, so we gulped and agreed to the repair. The repair was successfully carried out. Let me preface the following by pointing out that I have owned several BMWs and have worked on them all, applying my engineering perspective. After the holidays I was thinking about the repair and realized that the problem could not have been the pump itself. I concluded this because the AC was not on when the problem arose (mid-december) and, therefore, the pump was not engaged and turning at that time. The pump assembly consists of the pump, an electric clutch and a pulley for the drive belt. all in line. When the AC is not on the pulley turns but the pump remains stationary. I have found references that the pulley bearing fails and causes a knocking sound. The pulley replacement is a vastly easier and cheaper fix. The Hendricks service staff are very capable in my experience with them. The car problem in our case is not likely to be rare. so I feel that they should have straightaway understood the real problem. So, I feel we were sold a very expensive repair that we did not need. My wife and I just purchased a used 330i from Keaton Adams (salesman) who was ably assisted by Adam Ballou (BMW Genius). Keaton's communication skills were beyond expectations. We were thoroughly detailed about the car we wanted and I'm sure Keaton earned every penny of his commission finding it for us, arranging for transport during a winter storm and prepping it for delivery. Adam walked us through all the controls and made us ready to drive off with a minimum of difficulty. It is a far different car than our 2003 330i. All in all an excellent experience start to finish from both Keaton and Adam. We highly recommend both the dealership and these two young professionals. More
Facilities for waiting were nice...Service Reps were fast and courteous. Use of technology was excellent, especially texted video of technician findings and work. Wash job at end was excellent. The repair was executed well and I was pleased to be taken care of by AJ. My only quibble is how long it took to get done. My appointment was on the 4th. When I dropped the car off, I asked if all the needed parts were on hand for this common repair (oil pan gasket replacement) and I was told they were. The car was first assessed on the 6th and then I was told that they had to order a part (a part that was standard for this repaiir, not something unforeseen). The repair was finished by end of day on the 11th. My understanding of an appointment is that it is for a time when the work is ready to begin. Anyway,I am pleased with the result. Thank you. More
