The only reason that I was originally drawn to McGrath was it's impressive and massive new location on Randall. Their facility is beautiful. Their service department is impressive as well as their waiting areas in the service department. Funny that no one was waiting for service though? I'm pretty sure that the customers are having to overpay for all of that overhead. I can say that my salesman, was very helpful. He took the time to explain the 2011 Honda Odyssey inside and out. He really knew all about the van and was super excited to share the details with me. I must say that I don't believe that my bad experience was his fault in any way. I feel that the problems came from higher up. I made an appointment for a Saturday, so that my husband and I could test drive together and hopefully buy a van. We are very busy, work opposite shifts and have children that we arranged child care for. We wanted to buy a van with has little hassle as possible. We arrived at our appointment, took our test drives and then sat down to discuss price. Then the typical back and forth between the sales manager started. We were informed that he was very busy, working on "several deals". I don't know about you, but when I'm making a $36,000 purchase, I want to feel like the ONLY customer. I wasn't really happy with the price that we came to, but really just wanted to get out of there at that point. We were interested in having an after market DVD player installed, since the EX-L with RES wasn't readily available in the color that we wanted. The salesman wasn't able to provide detailed information on the after market DVD player. This was a turn off, because I find it necessary to do my research on big ticket items and he wasn't making it easy (probably because he didn't want me to know that they were charging me over $1000 for a $250 unit). In the end they told me that the van that I wanted was located at their other McGrath City dealership. I specifically asked how many miles were on the van and was told 11 + the miles to drive it from one location to another. On the day of the scheduled transfer from one dealership to another, I received a phone call from the salesman asking if I would have a problem if the van had almost 500 miles on it. Yes I have a problem with spending top dollar for a DEMO! The sales manager seemed dumbfounded that I didn't trust him to find me the van that I was searching for. In the end we ended up purchasing our new van at Schaumburg Honda (see my review for them here). Unlike McGrath Honda of Elgin, they didn't make us sign a paper that said: If we can agree to a price, I am willing to purchase a vehicle today; they didn't make us leave a deposit and we didn't have to go back and forth between the salesman and the sales manager with them playing the "good cop/bad cop" game. I told them the price that I wanted (invoice from cars.com) and we were done. Simple as that. They even had 2 vans to choose from in the color combo that I wanted, one with 6 miles and one with 11 miles. Why am I taking the time to write such a long review? My time is very precious to me and my family and I hate that I wasted so much time at a dealership (McGrath of Elgin) that didn't value my time, only their dollar. If you want an awesome experience, call Mike Lis at Schaumburg Honda. More
My wife and I were looking for an SUV and test-drove the Honda CR-V here without an appointment, on a Thursday afternoon. We were promptly greeted by Louis Burgos and he was very friendly, asked the right Honda CR-V here without an appointment, on a Thursday afternoon. We were promptly greeted by Louis Burgos and he was very friendly, asked the right questions, etc. One of the things I liked best about this dealership was that, before the test drive, they made you sit in the seat, adjust all mirrors, and spent about 5 minutes going through where all of the buttons were located (windshield wipers, lights, trip indicator, etc.). This is a great customer service standard that is a differentiator from most other dealerships. We ended up not buying a Honda this time, so I cannot comment on price. However, our experiences up to the point of sale were top-notch. More
I gave McGrath Honda in Elgin such a high rating because I have been a customer since 1983. I have been extremely satisfied with every car I have bought/leased from them. Other than an oil change and other I have been a customer since 1983. I have been extremely satisfied with every car I have bought/leased from them. Other than an oil change and other regularly scheduled maintenance, I've never had a problem. The staff has always been exceptional. One of the things I like the best, is there never has been any pressure to purchase a car from any of the sales personnel. The staff is always knowledgeable about their product and very helpful. My recent visit in March is no exception, Justin, Dustin, and Robin were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and worked within my time frame. I appreciate everything they did. More
I have recently purchased a new Honda Accord and felt my experience was worth letting everyone know about. Unfortunately we do not often express our thoughts when things go great but only when they are neg experience was worth letting everyone know about. Unfortunately we do not often express our thoughts when things go great but only when they are negative. I , along with my grown children, had been reseraching what car to buy for several months. I didn't feel like I had made a good choice with the last car I bought and this time wanted to take my time and test drive all of them and compare price, gas mileage, and similar cars with all different makes or models. I ended up test driving many brands in just a few days and really was in no immediate rush as I had a car to drive until my daughter got back from college for the summer. I couldn't believe how positive the experience was at McGrath Honda and I walked away with my new Hoda Accord that day. My husband and I had never bought a car where we really liked the salesman, joked with them, and thought they were so attentive to our needs. Jason Stahl and his manager, James Russo were so nice and knowledgeable. We would definitely buy another car from them and will surely recommend them to any of our friends and family. It was actually a fun, positive car buying experience this time around. More
Went to buy a used care due to our car being totaled in an accident. Worked out a great price with the salesman Innocent. But things went bad whe it came time to pay for it. The cashier said their check gu an accident. Worked out a great price with the salesman Innocent. But things went bad whe it came time to pay for it. The cashier said their check guarantee company declined my check & I was told since it was after business hours for banking to call them the next morning. I called the bank the next day & then the dealer I told them the bank would verify funds if there was a problem with the check guarantee co. they said to come back in & they would do that. When it came time to pay once again the check was declined (I was told ghey have this occur alot with this check co) so the sales manager called my bank verified the funds. So I sat down & waited for them to finish 20 mins pass & they come over & tell me to go get a certified bank check cause I could always stop payment on my check. At that point I told them no cause I had already explained that I just had hip replacement surgery & wasn't able to spend hrs at car dealer. They didn't care about me as a customer so I called my husband & he told me to tell them what they could do with thier car. It's a shame they treat people with no respect & I am now having to start car shopping again. I hope the owners take a better look at how people are treated by thier employees. Never shop at Magrath!!! More
Had an oil and filter change on my 2003 Honda CRV. I usually bring my own oil and just pay for the oil filter and labor. During my most recent oil change,my mechanic noticed that I had the same oil filt usually bring my own oil and just pay for the oil filter and labor. During my most recent oil change,my mechanic noticed that I had the same oil filter-It was not changed during the oil change at Mcgrath. We suspect they just drained the oil and refilled it.We also doubt if they ever changed the oil.....I was billed dor labor and oil filter and had to wait almost 2 hours to get this simple routine procedure done. The past two weekend we had been going out looking for a SUV for my son. We visited about 10 dealerships in all and every single salesperson was nice and friendly and accommodating. We told all of them ex SUV for my son. We visited about 10 dealerships in all and every single salesperson was nice and friendly and accommodating. We told all of them exactly what kind of car we wanted and how much we were willing to pay out the door. We test drove 7 made an offer on one but couldn't make a deal. Yesterday, after a long day we drove out to Elgin to meet friends for dinner. On the way we passed McGrath Honda in Elgin. It was huge and impressive and my wife and I decided to stop in to see what they have. What a huge mistake that was. We went to the front desk and told the woman we wanted to talk to someone about buying a used car. To the left was Sonny Razza slouched in his chair looking completely bored. The woman asked him if he could work with us. He reluctently got up from his chair to meet us. Not once during our entire time there did he smile. He completely made us feel unwelcome. We explained to him what exactly we were looking for and he looked up a couple of SUVs. He was acting like this was a huge inconveinence the entire time. The first one had too many miles. Then he said he had a Toyota Highlander at $13500.00. We told him that we thought that it would be too big and it was out of our price range. He said that in that year it was smaller. My wife and I started to get interested and we asked if we could see it. He hesitated and said he wasn't about to pull it around if we had no intention of buying it. I told him we wanted to see it to see if it was too big. He then said that he will talk to his manager to see how low he can price and if it's something we can work with then we can see the car. We waited for about 5 minutes and he came back with a price still out of our price range. When we told him that it was still too much he threw his hands down, rolled his eyes and sighed loudly. Basically like a 2 year old. That's when we left. This Sonny guy is extremely unprofessional and has turned me off on buying a car from McGrath in Elgin. More
I had a great experience at McGrath honda. They were very helpful in getting me a great deal on a civic ex-l. I did not end up buying the civic, but i would recommend this dealership to everyone. Salesman didn't know anything about the used car that we were interested in. The salesman and his manager were both very pushy, when we clearly weren't interested in the vehicle. They repeatedly asked were interested in. The salesman and his manager were both very pushy, when we clearly weren't interested in the vehicle. They repeatedly asked what we owed on our trade in, which is none of their business until a deal is done and they need the pay off amount. We never receieved an estimate on our trade in. Unprofessional, pushy, and I don't know how they sell any cars. More
After seeing a used Highlander on usedvehiclesforsale.us at a great price, we made an appointment to come in and look at it a couple of weeks ago. When we arrived the salesman told us that it had already b at a great price, we made an appointment to come in and look at it a couple of weeks ago. When we arrived the salesman told us that it had already been sold and attempted to up-sale on a newer Honda that was about $5,000 more. We were not interested and left quickly. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the salesperson that we talked with at this point. Still looking for a vehicle, I noticed that this same one was still listed as being for sale. On a whim, I called the dealership again about this vehicle, giving a different name. They told me it was available and wanted to make an appointment for me to look at it. Don't fall for this bait and switch from McGrath. More
