CarMax Method without CarMax Quality We made a trip to look at a used wrangler. We had looked at it online a noticed obvious cupping on the tires but having done business with them befor We made a trip to look at a used wrangler. We had looked at it online a noticed obvious cupping on the tires but having done business with them before we were sure they would have taken care of it, or would take care of it. During our test drive, it was the worst drive of any wrangler we had driven in this shopping effort. The cupping on the tires was so advanced that the ride was a rough loud disaster. To make it worse every time the brakes were applied they pulsated and the car shook. We asked the sales rep to drive and he verified the problem was so bad that he couldn't talk to us further until his service people looked at it. The next day, we were told the problem was all in the tires, but they hadn't replaced them. They were holding them as a negotiation tactic. Negotiation is a misnomer, as they refused to budge from their listed price, despite multiple attempts on our part to begin a dialogue. I am familiar with sticking to a sticker price, CarMax does this, however I don't believe CarMax would have put a car with such an obvious problem on the lot for sale. If they did, I am confident they would fix the problem once it was pointed out to them. The car had been on the lot for 60 days. We were told that the sales manager believed he could get what he was asking for it at auction. I question why he had not yet done so if the car had sat for 60 days and no one had driven it enough to notice the problem. The only other option is that they were aware of the problem and did not want to fix it, hoping instead someone would buy it the way it was. We went elsewhere an bought a newer similarly equipped wrangler with fewer miles for $500 less than the price the sales manager would not budge from. More
