In 2007, we purchased our first new Toyota Camry at the Santa Monica dealership. After the years dealing with their service department it seemed as though we were not cool enough for those people. So w Santa Monica dealership. After the years dealing with their service department it seemed as though we were not cool enough for those people. So we found Keyes Toyota in Van Nuys and here it is 2023 and to this day they have always treated my old car and old me with professional kindness and respect. More
This was a rather lousy experience. I had told the salesman the car I was interested in and said I'd be in around 3p depending on traffic. Between 240p and 320p he called me 3x, texted I had told the salesman the car I was interested in and said I'd be in around 3p depending on traffic. Between 240p and 320p he called me 3x, texted AND sent an email asking if I was still coming in. How horribly obnoxious! Oddly, though he OBVIOUSLY knew I was coming in around 3p and the exact car I was interested in checking out, he didn't bother to get ready for me, and when I arrived he said no one knew where the key for the car was, so I'd have to wait while they looked for it. How utterly absurd and unprofessional! I was finally able to drive the car and said I was willing to negotiate a deal. I told him the car was overpriced by about $6,000 and he didn't believe me. I told him to look up the car on Kelley Blue Book to see the fair market value. I wish I could have taken a photo of his face, he was STUNNED to see that I was right, and I said the price on KBB is the price I would be willing to pay. He told me he would not make a commission if he sold me the car at the fair price. He admitted that the dealership had overpaid for the car, so they needed to sell it at a higher price. I informed him--and a few minutes later, the store manager--that it is NOT my fault they made a mistake, it is NOT my fault that he "won't make a commission" on the car, and I will NOT be penalized because they made a bad business deal. They both refused the fair price, and I went outside to call a Lyft. They both followed me outside and the manager very rudely argued with me to the extent that if I owned the dealership, I would have fired him on the spot. He said I needed to come up $200, and I said "no." He said "you're going to pass on buying a car because of only $200? It's just $200!" How HORRIBLY unprofessional of him. I said, "no, YOU'RE going to pass on selling a car because of only $200. It's just $200!" My Lyft driver arrived and I said "goodbye" to the manager and the salesman, who suddenly agreed to the fair price that I had said I would pay. The manager stomped away and I am very grateful I didn't have to see him again. The rest of the buying process was fairly simple. The man in the finance department, Shaq, was the best part of the experience. I was even more disappointed the next day when the rain started again and of course, the windows fogged over, and I immediately saw that whoever "cleaned" the glass did a horrible job, it had so many swipe marks all over it I had to pull over and clean it myself. I then noticed that the previous owner had a dog. How did I learn this little tidbit of information? Well, the team who "cleaned" the car before it was sold to me missed a spot here and there. Not only that, during the test drive the salesman tracked in some nature from the parking lot, and it wasn't cleared out, either. The "cleaning" team merely put the floor mat over the bits of nature. I am NOT impressed by this dealership. Please, do NOT go to this dealership unless you REALLY enjoy arguing with difficult, rude people, are willing to stand your ground and hold out for a fair price, and/or have no other option to buy a car.
