Pushy, strong armed sales effort chased me out of dealership Went out to Jenkins Hyundai last week to test drive a car I had called about. The car was beautiful but the experience went downhill from there. T Went out to Jenkins Hyundai last week to test drive a car I had called about. The car was beautiful but the experience went downhill from there. The salesman assigned to me was pushy and self-centered. Spent the entire test drive discounting my comments and explaining how the car would overcome any concerns I expressed. His obvious attempts to "sell" the car were irritating. Upon returning to the dealership, there was a "strong armed", un-professional effort to get me to commit right then and there. I resisted. Then their offer for my trade-in was very low. I countered with a low offer back. I had done my homework and new the value of my trade. At that point, the salesman turned me over to the sales manager and the salesman moved on to the next prospect without even a goodbye or wave of the hand. The sales manager came up to me and acted insulted that I would waste their time. Keep in mind that I drove up to the dealership on Atlantic Boulevard from Mandarin. I was the one investing my time with the full intention of buying a car. He then lectured me in a condescending and arrogant way about the car business and how I did not understand the process. For the record, I have purchased about 30 cars in my life and also ran a very large auto leasing department for a large Atlanta bank. I bought dealer paper and set up a dealer hold-back program that was very successful. I have a pretty good knowledge of how dealerships work and the "sales process". After listening to manager as long as I could stand, I asked for my keys. He gave them to me with obvious displeasure wasting his time. At no point in the process did either the salesman or the sales manager ask about me, my motives for wanting a new car, or the features or benefits that were important to me. Two days later, I bought a car from another dealership that was professional and courteous in their interaction with me. My experience with Jenkins Hyundai ranks as one of the worst, if not the worst, experience in a dealership that I can recall. I suggest that Mr. Jenkins look long and hard at his sales team members. The two I dealt with are not helping his reputation in any way. More
