Unexpectedly smooth experience I'd done some research using Consumer Reports, YouTube videos, and a few other sources up to this point. When I was ready to make a purchase I gathere I'd done some research using Consumer Reports, YouTube videos, and a few other sources up to this point. When I was ready to make a purchase I gathered my own financing, my own offers for my trade-in, and researched which dealership had the exact make, model, and year of the vehicle I was looking for. I even used TrueCar to get some estimates to get the ball rolling (which is how I chose Indy Honda in the first place). Needless to say, I came prepared to negotiate. When I showed up, the original salesperson I was assigned, Tristen Sexton, chose to skip our appointment, despite my responding to 2 separate confirmation requests affirming I intended to keep the appointment. Another salesperson, Bailey Alexander, picked up my business and combed through Tristen's notes. Little did either of them know, I was ready to buy that day. It became apparent that the ball was really dropped with my appointment when I went to see the vehicle I wanted. See, I live/work north of Indy and the dealership is south of Indy, for an appointment where I had to fight rush hour traffic. When the vehicle was brought up, it was still wrapped in plastic, had signs of dust on it from it arriving that same week, and reportedly wasn't yet "PDI'ed" so it was undrivable anywhere but the parking lot. The center console was completely disabled, which was 1 of 2 reasons I wanted to test drive it, and I wasn't able to determine how it performed on the highway at higher speeds as a result. Fortunately I'd previously test driven the same vehicle with the next trim down and could assuage a majority of my concerns. I took a risk and said "let's talk price". Bailey Drew up some paperwork, checked out my trade-in (admittedly it was a bit worse for wear), and we agreed on price for the vehicle. That part went very quickly. Next was the discussion with the finance person. Discussing financing options, we batted numbers back and forth, the person (his name escapes me) tried to upsell me on buying the VIN etching as if it's a stupid decision to forego it (do your own research, this is a common tactic), got frustrated that I wouldn't take an offer with worse APR than what I secured on my own because it was only a little worse (difference of a few bucks per payment), and we finally landed on a lower APR than I walked in with. Unfortunately he tried to spin the "buy rate" as the interest rate until I corrected the document with our apparently miscommunicated, agreed upon APR. Buyer beware, this person was slippery and I'm glad I read every word of the documents I was signing. Seriously. All in all, the experience had me there for 2.5 to 3 hours. Keep in mind that's with me walking in knowing exactly the vehicle I want, my price range, having offers on my trade-in and financing for them to match, and being upfront about the offers they had to beat after they gave me their initial offers for each one. Most of the wait was not on me reading the documents or on me hemming and hawing over price, it was on them to prepare the documents and formalize the offers. Since the vehicle wasn't ready to drive off same-day, I had to come back to pick it up. Pick-up was with Bailey again and he showed me the now fully-functional center console, the various features of the vehicle he wasn't able to show me before, and had me sign the checklist they went through acknowledging I'd seen it. Because of the rate I got the vehicle (total price), the rate of financing (APR), and how honest and straightforward Bailey was, I would definitely shop here again. The main sticking points were distance from my home/work and that the vehicle wasn't prepped for the test drive I scheduled days in advance. More
