My GMC Terrain suddenly started sputtering and losing power, so my husband scheduled an appointment for the next morning. When I arrived, Brad was friendly and quickly built rapport. I told him I had an power, so my husband scheduled an appointment for the next morning. When I arrived, Brad was friendly and quickly built rapport. I told him I had an extended warranty and provided the information needed to file a claim. Later, Brad called to say the repair was covered but I would still owe $880. I was shocked because I’ve used this warranty before and have only paid the diagnostic fee for covered repairs. He explained that the warranty “only covers a small portion of our cost.” He also recommended my fuel system be flushed (inc in $880) and said I’d soon need a valve cover gasket. He claimed my warranty would cover “most” of that repair too, but I’d still owe another $380 plus tax. Something didn’t seem right. After researching, I found the entire valve cover gasket job typically costs around $600–700. If my warranty was paying “most” of it, why was my share still $380? I called Brad back and asked. He said the warranty only pays $180/hour, while their labor rate is $199/hour, and they wouldn’t accept less from the warranty company. When I told him I wanted to cancel the repair, his response suddenly changed. He said he’d “crunch some numbers.” Shortly afterward, he texted: “Hello Kendra. I crunched some numbers and can get you out the door for $102. Insurance is paying almost $800.” That completely destroyed my trust. If he could reduce my cost from $380 to $102 simply by “crunching the numbers,” why wasn’t that offered from the beginning? The explanation about the labor rate never added up, especially since the repair is less than a five hour job. To make matters worse, I called an independent ASE certified mechanic for another estimate. Their total price for the exact same repair was $556.32 out the door.. hundreds less than the combined $902 Brad claimed the repair would cost with the warranty. I can’t speak to anyone else’s experience, but based on mine, the pricing felt inconsistent, the explanations didn’t add up, and my confidence in this shop disappeared. I left feeling like I had to question every recommendation, and that’s not how customers should feel. More

First let me start off stating that I have been a customer of Gainesville Chevrolet since 2010. I am of a firm belief that in order to keep a vehicle in its best running condition that it needs to be customer of Gainesville Chevrolet since 2010. I am of a firm belief that in order to keep a vehicle in its best running condition that it needs to be maintained and repaired by a representative of the manufacturer. I have had 2 Saturns, a Chevy Traverse a Malibu, and a Silverado maintained by Gainesville Chevrolet. This includes all required and recommended services for the vehicles. There have been a couple of times where my confidence has been challenged. The first was when I brought my 2008 Saturn Vue in for service and related I could smell oil burning. This vehicle has been dealer maintained since I purchased it. When it was examined by their staff I was told it was leaking from the valve cover gasket as well as other places, but that was to be expected due to the milage on the motor. The service was completed and while driving home the smell got worse and I could see visible smoke coming from the engine compartment. A friend recommended I take it to his mechanic. Upon examination the service tech stated the gasket was in very good shape however the PCV valve was frozen shut. They replaced the gasket and cleaned the valve (no valve covers were available at the time) and the leaks went away. The next time I had a concern was when I brought in my Chevy Traverse because the radio wasn’t working properly. I was told it would cost $100.00 to diagnose the issue. When I came to pick up my vehicle I was told it was either the radio or the antenna. So in effect I paid Gainesville Chevrolet $100.00 to tell me they didn’t know and apparently didn’t have the equipment to properly diagnose the issue. Again, I took my vehicle to a non-GM shop and was told very quickly that the issue was the antenna, and the issue could be resolved with a $17.00 booster. A few days ago I contacted the service department because the Theft Deterrent system had activated and the vehicle wouldn’t run. I towed my vehicle to your facility and shortly thereafter was contacted and advised, BOTH of the keys for my vehicle were faulty. I was told that one of the keys was suspect because it was aftermarket. A little research on-line found this was highly unlikely. I was charged $643.07 for the repair. When I picked up my vehicle, I drove it approximately 2 miles to a local restaurant and when I tried to leave the Theft Deterrent system engaged again. I called the service department and the service writer came out, examined the vehicle and was able to move it to a parking lot to await a tow truck. This was a wasted trip from my home in Summerfield, because the service department failed to properly diagnose and repair my vehicle. I was contacted again by the service department and advised that further diagnosis of my vehicle revealed the ECM was bad. I was told that the part would cost me $1000.00, but that they wouldn’t charge me labor. Before I picked up my vehicle the first time I had a conversation with the service writer about other possible causes for the system failure, including the fuse for the theft control, the theft control module, and the ECM. I am more than a little concerned that when I took my GM vehicle to a GM service center that not only did they improperly diagnose the issue but then wanted me to pay for their mistakes. I understand that the ECM is an expensive part and that they are simply trying to recover some of the costs of your mistake. But they add insult to injury by charging me the inflated price for the ECM. I can purchase the ECM for my vehicle from 3 different sources for half of what they charged. All three sources can provide GENUINE GM parts. This last time is the last time I take any of my vehicles to Gainesville Chevrolet. It is apparent to me that the facility doesn’t have the equipment or expertise to properly diagnose and repair my GM vehicles. More
