The process of purchasing the car was so quick and easy. I love the fact that everyone pays the same price and Carmax provides information about the car's history. I love that you can reserve a car for 4 days to give yourself time to make an appointment without worrying about someone else buying the car in the meantime. We bought a 2021 Nissan Rogue SV with 94K miles and with Carmax's 10 day return policy we took the car to Nissan to have it inspected for peace of mind. Other than some high mileage maintenance items (ie transmission fluid change) the car received a clean bill of health. We liked the process so much we came back a few days later and purchased another car that caught my eye while shopping for the Nissan. That makes 4 cars purchased from Carmax in the last 14 years. We did not purchase the warranty nor use the service center, so I cannot speak to those. More
It took far too long. We had the car shipped to the dealership, which was ok but took a little longer than expected. CarMax failed at the most basic part of the process: communication. I was given a written appraisal and never once informed that it required in‑person verification to remain valid. I immediately initiated a vehicle transfer, but CarMax delayed the arrival and inspection of the vehicle until after the appraisal expired — a delay entirely caused by them, not me.When I attempted to resolve it, the store offered no accountability, no explanation, and no solution. Every response was a scripted deflection. CarMax’s lack of transparency and internal coordination turned a straightforward transaction into a preventable failure. If this is their definition of a ‘transparent process,’ it’s deeply misleading. More
