My wife and I visited Dorschel while looking for a minivan. We met up with Dan and he took us through the Routan in excellent detail, addressing all of our questions and concerns. He did a very good j minivan. We met up with Dan and he took us through the Routan in excellent detail, addressing all of our questions and concerns. He did a very good job of explaining the vehicle and walking us through the features and options. Dan definitely did a good job of making sure that we got the vehicle that we wanted and not just a vehicle from their dealership. We felt no pressure of any sort. Everything from the initial introduction to the pricing to the delivery was pleasant. They are very professional and easy to do business with. This is by far the best experience I've ever had with buying a car. Customer service: Not only was Dan friendly and knowledgeable, he made himself available to us off hours in case we had questions. The day after we picked up the car he called to make sure that we were happy with it. Quality of work: The car is a beautiful car, not much more I can say here. Friendliness: Dan was very friendly, not pushy at all. He answered all of our questions cheerfully and was very good at explaining the paper work in real English instead of just reading the legalese. Overall Experience: Everything about this experience was pleasant. Right up through delivery. Dan spent all the time we needed him to showing us every little detail of how the car worked before we even pulled it off the lot. We had to spend some time in the service center so that they could quickly update the car for a recall (through no fault of their own, we asked for one-day delivery). Even the service center waiting room is beautiful. Multiple large screen modern TVs, a very nice cafe (with free lunches on Saturdays no less), free wifi and plenty of reading material. Price: Dorschel does not negotiate on price. They make their price very clear (I think they even call it their "Clear Price"). They do not make a promise that it is some small amount over a magic invoice number, that may or may not reflect the actual invoice cost of the car. They just tell you what they are selling the car for and everyone pays the same. You decide if you can afford it, you don't argue with the sales person until they've given you a price that you think you can. After doing research on prices for the same car from the other dealership in town, we found that the Dorschel price was better than the competitions price by thousands. So not only do they tell you what you pay for the car, it's a very fair price, way below MRSP. I know that some people like to barter for a new car, I just find it frustrating. I found this way of doing business to be much less stressful and made it so that I could talk to the sales rep about the car longer to decide if it's the car that I want rather than fight over price. Next time I am looking for a new car not only will I go to Dorschel first, I will seek Dan out. More

I bought a 2008 Passat turbo at the dealership about a month ago through Karl Dilcher. I appreciated that he met me where I was at in my exploration around buying a car. My old Passat was really old- a 19 month ago through Karl Dilcher. I appreciated that he met me where I was at in my exploration around buying a car. My old Passat was really old- a 1999. I'd kept it up, but it was OLD and he did not make me feel embarrassed about that- nor about my trouble letting my "baby" go. We are a VW family and I knew I wanted a used VW, but I don't usually go to a dealership. I just stopped in to see what they had because I was having trouble deciding what I wanted and locating anything relatively new. I went back three times to drive different VWs before settling on the one I bought. Karl was always eager to help me in my exploration, never questioned my need to "try out" various possible choices on the road. I drove Jetta's and ruled them out based on comfort issues [need good back support for some serious problems]; tried a comfort package Passat, thought it was "OK" but there was only one car and it was sold when I went back. So Karl helped me learn about the Passats with the extra lumbar support for drivers and I learned that would work for me. I tried those- turbo and non-turbo-ugly blue ones on the lot, but I liked the turbo driving experience, I guess bec. my old one was a turbo. When I took my husband back-bingo- a 2008 SILVER Passat with the lumbar support with low mileage had just been brought up; it was the one for me. Their two year extended VW warranty, in addition to the factory warranty time left was very attractive and an important factor in my decision. I love the car, but I waited to see if I would have any problems and how Karl and the dealership would respond before writing this review. In the first two weeks I had a problem with a slow leak in the new right front tire. I was initially turned off by the appointment person I called to see if I could bring the car in. I went to an independent tire dealer, who told me they were very good new tires but diagnosed a leaky pressure sensor, and they encouraged me to call the dealer. This time I called Karl. He readily arranged to have service address the issue, and I found them quick, effective, friendly; and they addressed the issue free of charge. Then, they washed my car and did a quick vacuum inside, too! I am very satisfied with my sales experience [great going Karl] and I look forward to continuing my relationship with Dorschel. More

Dave and I c UPDATED: 10/2/11 So I want to amend some of what I said below -- specifically because of a new VW sales Manager named DAVID L. KLINGLER. Dave and I corresponded a bunch, and I fully expected that he was just trying to get me to change my rating and paying lip service to the problem. I was dead wrong. Dave is a genuine, honest, forthright guy, and did something I can't remember anyone in sales doing in a long time: he made it right. I expected a Starbucks coupon and a lame apology, but Dave invited us in, sat us down, explained his new management style, and worked diligently to restore my faith in his dealership. And he did just that. I'm still in shock and disbelief that in the middle of all the dishonesty out there that there are still guys like Dave in the workforce. I commend him, and I look forward to doing business with him and his revamped team in the future. Thanks, Dave. You've given me reason to raise my ratings for your store. ----- I'm not normally one to write bad reviews, but my experience with this dealer was so infuriating that I decided to follow through for once and talk about it. Basically, it boils down to dishonesty and unethical behavior by the sales team and management of the dealership. My complaint boils down to two simple things: 1. They listed prices and loan rates for 2012 GTIs that they then declared misprints and refused to honor; and they didn't even bother to correct the signage after I had mentioned it several times over the course of a week, including multiple times during the final negotiation phase of the process. 2. They had "new" 2011 GTIs for which they WOULD honor the posted prices and rates, but the cars had between 300 and 500 miles already on them; and the cars were still full price. Rochester car dealerships have been going through a rough inventory period, especially if you want to buy a top-end model with a manual transmission. By the time I settled on Dorschel, they were basically the only game in town. So I still ended up buying a GTI (a 2012, so it didn't come with a ton of miles on it already) but was pretty angry -- so I bought a cheaper trim (with fewer options) than I would have, and skipped all the add-ons, some of which I usually buy (such as an extended warranty). I can't find the words to suitably express my disappointment with this dealership, and disgust with the entire sales team. They were glib and dismissive about my two concerns -- higher-then-expected mileage on "new" cars, and bogus, bait-and-switch signage that ended up costing me more money in finance charges than it should have. To further showcase the poor behavior of this dealership, I started filling out the various surveys they sent, and was actually contacted by the new VW Sales Manager. I described what transpired, and asked him what he planned to do to make amends -- of course, I'm talking about some kind of financial reparation/correction, or least some kind of more-than-token gesture or canned apology. Bottom line, this company, and especially Dan Welch and the sales management team, are really not to be trusted. And I intend to reiterate this story as often as possible, to anyone who will listen, and on every online outlet I can find. They got me, but I'm hoping they won't get anyone else. And directly to Dorschel I say: shame on you. You hurt your sale and your reputation: was it worth it for the tiny extra dent you made in my wallet for VW? Especially when you consider the extra $5K I was willing to spend at your dealership, but didn't? Ever heard of penny wise and pound foolish? Ever heard how angry/disappointed customers are much louder than satisfied ones? Stay away from Dorschel! More
The entire sales experience was very positive - from initial browsing around at Dorschel's showroom and lot looking at cars/options/prices to the actual purchase. David White was very friendly, forthco initial browsing around at Dorschel's showroom and lot looking at cars/options/prices to the actual purchase. David White was very friendly, forthcoming, and very open about pricing. He took the time to make me feel comfortable, and did a thorough job explaining the Dorschel sales process. When we could not find a car that met my needs, David quickly got onto the VW "hub" website and we looked what was in process and what cars were in shipment. When we found one that was close to what I wanted, he tracked it down and was able to divert it to Dorschel. Wow!! We worked a good deal with fair pricing and no pressure at all. I would recommend David and Dorschel to anyone that asked. When we picked up the car, the service continued to be excellent, with David taking time to make sure we understood the new car and how it worked and setting up service and introducing us to new people in the service department. The new car was ready when promised, and was detailed to a "tee". This was a great experience overall and I will be back to Dorschel for the next car I need. Thanks to David for making it all work out so well. More
