I reached out to BMW of Carlsbad this morning to purchase a pre-owned vehicle listed for sale (one that I've been searching for over the past few months). The sales associate I spoke with said come down asap a pre-owned vehicle listed for sale (one that I've been searching for over the past few months). The sales associate I spoke with said come down asap as there is a lot of interest in the car. I let him know I don't live locally and the tone changed, he said they like to prioritize customers who can drive the car home the same day. I let him know I'd be happy to give my credit card - and then was told someone scheduled an appointment to look at it today (and he would call me tomorrow if it's still available). Seems odd that if you would prioritize an appointment for someone (or hold a car without a deposit) - but you would ignore that appointment if I were living close by and could get there sooner. I guess geographical discrimination is a thing these days. I called back as this didn't sit all that well with me and asked the sales manager what their policy is in relation to not selling to someone. He also said they like to prioritize local customers - "it's just what we do". I guess if you live local - you have a better chance of buying a car from them. Pretty poor experience. More
