Introduced at Detroit in February 1954 and first available for purchase that October, Fords Thunderbird created an all-new car market as a stylish, sporty, and well-equipped personal car. Importantly, the V-8 Thunderbird offered a more sophisticated and powerful, steel-bodied alternative to Chevrolets 6-cylinder, fiberglass-bodied Corvette. Low, sleek and sporty, the T-Bird included a powerful V-8 engine, available automatic transmission, removable hardtop and abundant standard and optional features. Confirming the T-Birds successful formula, 16,155 were sold for 1955, versus just 700 Corvettes. Mildly updated for 1956 and further refined for 1957, the Thunderbird saw rising sales to 21,380 cars for 1957, the last model year for the two-seat Thunderbird until 2002. Today, the original 1955-1957 Thunderbirds remain automotive and cultural icons, celebrated in 2005 as part of a popular commemorative stamp issue from the U.S. Postal Service.
Simply gorgeous from top to bottom and powered by the rare and highly desirable Dual Quad E-Code 312 CI V-8 engine delivering 245 HP, this 1957 Ford Thunderbird is the beautiful product of a completed, concours-quality restoration performed by renowned T-Bird expert, Amos Minter. Stunning visuals include factory-correct Torch Red paint over a matching Red interior with bench seat, beautifully accented by gleaming brightwork, chrome wire wheels, and period correct whitewall tires. Choice options include power windows and a telescopic steering column. Additional items with the car include a full spare wheel/tire, a car cover, original tools and a roadside jack, plus a full set of keys and miscellaneous spare parts. While 1955-1957 Thunderbirds are important and popular collector cars, few are as beautiful as this one, and far fewer benefit from Amos Minters renowned restoration expertise, making this spectacular example a fabulous opportunity for collectors to acquire one of, if not the, best cars of its kind anywhere.
