I am very sad to have to write his because when we originally bought our car in 2019 we posted rave reviews. But, 2 years ago our 2016 Kia Sedona completely drained oil on a three hour drive and the e originally bought our car in 2019 we posted rave reviews. But, 2 years ago our 2016 Kia Sedona completely drained oil on a three hour drive and the engine died. It was warrantied. There were only 50,000 miles on it. After fighting with Kia corporate for almost two years, I finally received word from the head of customer service in their international headquarters in Korea that the only thing keeping us from getting our warranty approved is the fact that Yonkers Kia neglected to put the oil change and mileage on our purchase invoice. NYS law states the following: “When you buy a used vehicle, the dealer must certify, in writing, that it is in condition and repair to render, under normal use, satisfactory and adequate service upon the public highway at the time of delivery. The dealer certification covers the entire vehicle …” Yonkers Kia gave us a purchase invoice where they certified the car was safe. We were told, among other things, that an oil change would be performed free of charge. They kept our vehicle while they performed this extensive maintenance inspection/work. We were told, in writing, that they would “extend whatever courtesy they can” to keep us in the Kia family. This, obviously, included the oil change. In November 2022, Kia corporate told us, in writing, that they were aware of an oil change in 2019 that was registered with CarFax. The only other oil change we got that year was from our family mechanic who does not use CarFax so it had to be Yonkers KIA. We can no longer find that on CarFax. Yonkers KIA told us at the time that it was “almost” a certified vehicle. There didn’t seem to be any issues with it at the time. Now, two years later we have finally gotten approval from Kia corporate on all of our oil change receipts but now they are saying “no” to the Yonkers invoice because it specifically doesn’t say oil change. Simple fix right? One would think. But, Yonkers KIA is insisting that they have no record of our being there!! We have a purchase invoice. Of course we were there!! We have their signature certifying that the car they sold us was safe. So, either they performed the safety inspection/service, including the oil change, or they lied on our contract. We just need them to acknowledge the truth, that they performed the oil change, among other services, so we can present that last receipt to corporate and finally get our warranty approved. I might add that this engine is part of a huge NHTSA investigation. In addition, this particular year Sedona has so many defects its warranty was extended to 180,000 miles. And yet, ours died at 50,000 miles and sits dead in our driveway as we continue to make payments on a loan that Yonkers Kia secured. Now I have to wonder if they knowingly sold me a vehicle that they knew had a defective engine? At this point I just need my warranty approved. And they are the only thing standing in the way. And they refuse to acknowledge me. More
