When we purchased our new 2015 Pilot EX-L at Boch Honda West it was probably the best automobile purchasing experience we ever had. Their sales team was great, the pricing was very competitive, the trade-i West it was probably the best automobile purchasing experience we ever had. Their sales team was great, the pricing was very competitive, the trade-in was fair, the transaction was quick and easy. Then for the years that followed we were very impressed with the honest and outstanding service department. Unfortunately, this past July the paint started to peel on the roof of our 2015 Pilot EX-L and we soon learned this was a very well-known manufacturing defect. We contacted Honda of America the week of July 24th to discuss the paint issue. They informed us the paint used by Honda on the year/make and model of our vehicle has a known defect causing the paint to peel and that Honda extended a warranty to cover such damage, but it has expired. It was suggested by Honda of America we contact Boch Honda West to discuss this matter further which we did immediately and spoke with a Service Representative. She stated the warranty for paint issues related to the defect had expired, but Boch Honda West may honor an act of good will to their customers. Out next step was to wait for the Service Director, Mr. Stan Dekhtyar to contact us upon his return from vacation to discuss this matter. Mr. Dekhtyar stated that while the warranty was expired, he requested we obtain an estimate to repair the damage from Westford Collision. He stated he would submit a claim to Honda for the damage and would also pursue extending an act of good will to rectify our issue. We informed Mr. Dekhtyar we already had obtained an estimate from Patterson Body Shop in Stow, but he insisted we obtain a second estimate from Westford Collision as Boch Honda West uses this shop for these types of matters. It was far from convenient, took just under 2 hours during the work week and disrupted our day, but as instructed, we drove to Westford Collision on August 1st for an estimate of repairs. The estimate was sent immediately from Westford Collision via e-mail at 1:45 p.m. on the same day to us and to Boch Honda West. On August 2nd at 8:30 a.m. we received a brief e-mail from Mr. Dekhtyar with the following wording – “Because this was already an extension of warranty, it cannot be extended further. The vehicle is out of the extension, and no coverage can be offered at this time per Honda.” There also was no mention of any efforts to extend an act of good will as we were previously led to believe. When we asked Mr. Dekhtyar for the claim number for our case, he told us a claim number did not exist which leads us to believe a claim was not submitted as promised. This would explain the quick response after receiving the requested estimate. In addition to this misleading waste of our time and efforts, Mr. Dekhtyar informed us the trade in value will be negatively affected by the manufacturer paint defect towards a new Honda Pilot which we have been considering. Our loyalty to Honda (3 vehicles) just received a huge slap in the face. We really like the 2023/4 Pilot and test drove one this past weekend. Previously we had no concerns with the Boch Honda West dealership or Honda in general. However, now we have the following concerns that are holding us back from purchasing a new Honda Pilot. 1. Our trade-in value has been compromised due to the manufacturers peeling paint defect. 2. Will this be a defect on new Pilots? 3. Will Honda and Boch Honda West stand behind their vehicles? 4. Can we be respected by Boch Honda West? 5. Can we expect Boch Honda West to be 100% honest with us? Might be time to start looking at Jeep Grand Cherokees! More
