I was excited to go to CarVision to test drive a car. The car was advertised as slightly less than $20K, so after tax and fees I was expecting a price on the ballpark of $22K. But, when the manager came The car was advertised as slightly less than $20K, so after tax and fees I was expecting a price on the ballpark of $22K. But, when the manager came out to tell me the final price was $5K more my jaw dropped with disappointment. There was a list of expenses that I didn’t agree to add-on. There was a charge of $995 for coverage of wheel and rim damage, and $2700 for warranty coverage and another fee for gap insurance. I did not ask for any of these. When I pushed back on the inflated price, the sales manager never once explained to me that these were options. I wasn’t willing to most for things that I didn’t want, so left disappointed. The next day I received an email from another manager. I took advantage of it to reply with an explanation of my experience. He contacted me to confirm that the add-ons were, in fact, optional. He revised the sales agreement and I returned the next day to buy the car. In the end I got a great car at a great price. When shopping at CarVision, be aware that, if you’re used to options like these being offered at the end of the sales process, they put them up front on the initial sales offer. This can make it seem like they’ve inflated the price with unwanted options. More
