I kept up with the maintenance and have always had my car serviced at the dealership, thus the reason why I’ have been able to maintain it for 10 years. I took my car to Gerald Kia in Matteson for them to look at it. They told me they found the error code P0014. When they cleared the error they told me that they could not find any other errors. The service department person (Pete) told me he could not guarantee that the error would not surface again, but from what they could see there was nothing wrong with the car. Before I made it home, the error and message came back. I brought my car back to the dealership to have it repaired .They kept my vehicle overnight. I had to call to see what was the update for my car. In Petes own words “how deep down the rabbit hole do you want to go? “Pete told me that they would have to take my engine apart. That would be at least 10 hours of labor. My camshaft was broken and possibly other items based on this P0014 code. I was looking at a repair bill somewhere between $2500-$3000. I told Pete I would pick up my car and not to do any work. I did some investigating online regarding that code as well as consulting with other mechanics. The first solution was to flush my engine and get a oil change . If that did not work the second solution would be to replace the intake and exhaust solenoid valve on my engine, neither of which require my engine to be taken apart. Altogether parts and labor for that would be $300. The dealership wanted to scam me out of $3000 or Bamboozled me into buying a new car. I took my car and had the engine flushed and an oil change. The problem has resolved. The service department person saw a woman and automatically assumed that I was gullible enough to say here’s $3000 for please sell me a new car.. Gerald Kia wanted to scam me. I’m glad I did my due diligence and research. I miss the days of Hawkinson Kia. The professionalism and the service was way better than Gerald Kia. Do not take your car there for service. They don’t even wash your car when you have your car serviced. Is it too much to ask for professionalism honesty and customer service? More
My experience at Gerald Kia of Matteson was horrible. I traded in and purchased a vehicle back in August 2025. Suddenly, I had a change of heart and I wanted to return the vehicle not even 24-hours late I traded in and purchased a vehicle back in August 2025. Suddenly, I had a change of heart and I wanted to return the vehicle not even 24-hours later of driving off the lot and I was told that the deal was finalize which it was not. They did not include who the vehicle was financed through on my paperwork. They told me it was financed through Kia Motor Finance. I called and they said you have no account with us. To speed up the process they waited until the information was finalize before they told me who the lender was. My payment is not due until October. I will never ever return to that dealership and I will not recommend anyone to go there ever. They are not honest with consumers. More
I'm sure that in the history of epic car dealership failures, there are undoubtedly experiences worse than mine. But my story was definitely bad enough to leave me screaming from the rooftops: DO NOT E failures, there are undoubtedly experiences worse than mine. But my story was definitely bad enough to leave me screaming from the rooftops: DO NOT EVER consider getting a car from Kia of Matteson. They... - sold the car I told them I was coming to get later that day & they promised to hold for me - in the midst of the week my mom was dying, no less (which they knew). I had wasted 2.5 hours driving there & back from a family member's house, time I could have spent with family dealing with funeral details. - tried to sell me a different, more expensive car that didn't even sort-of meet my criteria, after they realized they'd goofed up. - listed the car on their website with at least 5 features that didn't match the cars.com description (I stopped counting after that)...then argued it didn't matter, that they weren't legally required to have an accurate listing, and that the price shouldn't have to change. - tacked on extra charges for things I didn't ask for to the final invoice that I had to reject...twice. - told me more than once that adding heated seats would be $500 but on the invoice they put it on as $950, hoping - I guess - to make a few extra bucks off of me. - LOST one of the very expensive keys, claimed they ordered one (but didn't), & promised (repeatedly) to send one but never did. At one point, they even told me the new key had arrived...but it had never been ordered. - promised me new floor mats but then sent ones for some other model which don't fit. - the sales person personally promised to buy & send me a missing cargo mat but never did. - made a service appointment for me to get one of the things I paid for (the heated seats) done, knowing that I live 6 hours away & would have to make a special trip. They then cancelled at the last minute, causing me to waste a vacation day I'd taken. Plus they said the work took two days, not one as I'd originally been told, and that I'd have to get work done elsewhere that THEY TOLD ME SEVERAL TIMES THEY COULD DO IN HOUSE. Sheesh. - charged me sales tax for items that weren't on the invoice (twice) but didn't refund the $$. - took over 2 months to get the title paperwork sent in, and when they finally did they gave my DOT the wrong address...their own dealership's. That caused me to have to spend extra time & $$ to get replacements. - dropped phone calls, never answered them, sent me to the wrong person, or didn't return calls as promised, dozens & dozens of times. (Their phone system is SO screwy!) - was told by the top manager they've had LOTS of staffing issues lately & he'd personally make things right. Spoiler: he didn't & is the one who sent the wrong floor mats. (I will say that, to his credit, he did find & vet a repair place closer to where I live who could put the heated seats in, then quickly sent me a $500 check.) This is just a summary, but there was even more. Honestly, no dealership should ever deal with a customer the way I was treated. It's now 4 months later & I'm STILL waiting on them to get me promised items I paid for. I wasted SO much time having to follow up over and over to check on things. All I can say to you is to go elsewhere for your car. Really...you'll be way happier. More
