Excited, I reached out to Jesse Cohen at Atlantic Chevrolet Cadillac in Bay Shore, NY, to confirm details, especially since I'm a cash buyer from out of state. What followed was a frustrating email chain full of contradictions. First, they quoted $25,945 as the "advertised" price, claiming the vehicle doesn't qualify for the federal EV tax credit because it exceeds the $25,000 cap. When I pointed out the lower Carfax price, they said it requires a $1,995 down payment and financing through them – something not evident in the listing I saw. Then, they added a $1,595 "adjustment" just because I wanted to pay cash, explaining that banks give them incentives for financed deals, so cash buyers get penalized. On top of that, a $695 dealer fee. They refused to honor the $23,950 price outright, insisting the "out-the-door" for cash would be over $27,000 before any taxes or DMV (which I'd handle myself). This feels like classic bait-and-switch: advertise a low price to lure you in, then pile on conditions and fees once you're engaged. If the price is financing-only, why not disclose that upfront on Carfax? I even asked to speak to a manager, but no luck – just more deflections. Save yourself the headache and shop elsewhere. Transparency is key in car buying, and this place lacks it entirely. More
