As a corporate relocation transferee with a prime Tier-1 employment contract and a massive 40% cash down payment ($15,000), the finance manager aggressively attempted to force an unwanted $1500 aftermarket GPS tracker and another $800 or something GAP insurance onto my contract. He explicitly lied, claiming that American Honda Finance mandated the tracker due to a 'thin credit file' and also falsely stated that New York State law legally mandates GAP insurance on loans over $30,000, not once mentioning the foreign professional relocation program until I brought it up. Initially, giving me a rate of more than 11% whereas the promotional APR was between 3.5% - 4.5%. Later when I explicitly told that I was a professional who was looking to get the Tier 1 rates because of my high salary, high initial down payment and low risk profile, the rates magically became the standard Honda promotional rates. These coercive, deceptive tie-in sales practices are completely unacceptable. I finally demanded my deposit back after around 3 hours of continuous back and forth to which they folded finally and suddenly dropped the ‘mandatory’ after market tracker add on. Honda corporate needs to audit this department's compliance. More
