2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue Recall

Description of Recall:
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 6,729,742 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2005 Chevrolet Malibu, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Action Need To Fix It:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will provide two replacement key rings and key cover on all ignition keys, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

Some of these passenger vehicles have internal fluid leaks in the brake hydraulic control unit. When the rear brake proportioning, antilock brake, traction control, or stability control feature is activated in some driving situations, the feature may not perform as designed.
Action Need To Fix It:
Dealers will inspect the ABS hydraulic modulator unit and, if necessary, replace the hydraulic modulator. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification was to begin during May 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Buick at 1-800-521-7300.

Certain passenger vehicles, light duty pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, and mini vans equipped with TRW seat belt buckle assemblies fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." The buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and do not pass the load bearing requirement of the standard. In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained.
Action Need To Fix It:
Dealers will inspect the vehicle's rear safety belt buckle assembly date codes and, if necessary, will replace any rear safety belt buckle assembly. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification was to begin during September 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Buick at 1-800-521-7300; Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020; GMC at 1-800-462- 782, Oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537; Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737; or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000.

Some of these passenger vehicles were built with rear seat shoulder belts that could twist, allowing the webbing to be jammed in the retractor. When the shoulder belt webbing becomes jammed in the retractor, the seat belt becomes unusable. This could prevent a person from using the seat belt system, and the risk of injury to an unbelted person in a crash would increase.
Action Need To Fix It:
Dealers will remove any twists from the rear shoulder belts and install clips to the belt web guide to prevent future twisting. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification will begin during April 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537.
