Last week, I and a friend, headed over to Zimmerman Honda to lease a new 2013 Honda Accord and to purchase the existing 2010 Honda Accord that we are currently leasing. We rode together so that she could dri to lease a new 2013 Honda Accord and to purchase the existing 2010 Honda Accord that we are currently leasing. We rode together so that she could drive home the new 2013 leased car and I would drive home the 2010 Accord. We told the sales associate, Ruth Sanders, that this is what we wanted to do and we would like to keep new lease payments close to what we are now paying. Ruth was very pleasant and said she would see what she could do. They had to find the 2013 Accord we wanted to lease make sure it was ready to go. We sat there for quite a while. Ruth came back and said our lease payments would be $10 more per month than what we were now paying. That seemed doable. At that time or sometime later, Ruth said that she could save us some time by not having to go down to the Treasurer’s office. We were a little unsure of the lease buyout amount because we were doing the lease buyout a payment or two before the end of the lease. Ruth told us the lease buyout amount. That amount seemed more than it should have been so I asked Ruth if taxes were included in that amount. She said yes. At no time during our discussion did Ruth provide a breakdown of costs involved in the lease or purchase buyout. As I mentioned earlier, we waited quite a while for the dealership to find the new car and get it ready. While we were waiting we asked if they could change the oil on the 2010 since the oil change indicator had come on. They said that wouldn’t be a problem. After waiting for 3 hours or so, they said the new leased car was ready. The paperwork was ready to sign and then they would go over the details of the car. They said that they needed to do the lease first and then they would handle the purchase paperwork. My friend was late for lunch so we signed the lease paperwork, went over the details of the new car and she went to lunch driving the new car. Then I was ready to sign the paperwork for the 2007 Accord. I sat down and they showed me the paperwork detailing the total amount of the purchase and the breakdown. I looked at the total purchase amount including tax, title license and the total was over $900 more than what I was expecting to pay. I got Ruth and said that was more than what I was expecting to pay. She said I must have misunderstood what was said. She then referred me to the sales manager, Sean Fortin. Sean said the purchase amount was more because they had to increase the purchase amount to lower the lease payment by approximately $20 to the amount we were looking to spend. I said this was never explained to us. Unbeknownst to us, while they were doing the oil change, they did a check over of the car which added in $200 to the final purchase price of the car. This $200 figure is included in the $900 figure noted earlier. If we had been told options and costs, we could have decided if we wanted to pay more on the lease payment (or at least negotiate a better a payment amount), go with what they were suggesting, or possibly check around check around for a better deal. Sean said that if I didn’t want the car, he could easily sell it to someone else. By this time I was a bit confused, tired, without a ride home and hadn’t had any lunch. Sean said I could use an empty office to go over the options and the figures. After another hour or so, I still wasn’t happy with what had transpired but didn’t see a way out. Sean said they had those costs in the deal. I asked if there was anything he could do. He said he would eat the $200 shop fee and throw in 2 oil changes. So being tired and not seeing any good options, I signed the paperwork and wrote a check. Over the weekend, I went over in my mind the things that were said. I also received a thank you card from Ruth and a phone call that went to the answering machine saying that she hoped I liked the car. During the transaction, Ruth gave us a dealerrate.com card. Since I was not happy with my customer experience, I owed it to myself, the dealership and other potential customers to detail my concerns. Before filling out the review, I called Ruth to let her know that I would be filling out a poor rating on my experience. She was sorry to hear that but said the purchase amount had to be more to get the lease payment down. I then called the sales manager, Sean Fortin. He also was sorry to hear that I was not happy with the transactions but reiterated why it was done and reminded me that he had taken off the $200 shop fee and thrown in 2 oil changes. I thanked him for that but stated that the bottom line was that the initial expectations were not met. He said that they had had hundreds of goods reviews and sometimes there is a person that can’t be pleased. To Sean’s credit, he made the general manager, RC, aware of the situation. RC requested that Sean call me back and if I was not happy with the purchase deal, I could take back the 2010 car and they would give me my money back. I thanked Sean for his call and offer but the offer did not address my concerns. I wanted the car but did not want to pay that much for it. Sean said that if I wanted I could talk to RC? I said I be happy to talk to anyone. RC called me back and we had a good conversation. By the end of the conversation, I felt he understood my concerns but also understood the dealership needed to make money on the deals and didn’t promise anything. Later that afternoon, RC called back and said they had contacted Honda credit and they would send back the paperwork if we wanted to start the deals from the beginning. I said I appreciated efforts they went to and the offer but that really doesn’t move things forward. When the paperwork came back, they would lower purchase price but increase the lease payments. A net zero gain. Plus there would be more time spend and running around. RC did say that he couldn’t anything more on these deals but that he would be willing to help on future deals. I thanked him for his offer but I wanted to focus on the present transactions. The issue at this point is not the lease payment amount and the purchase amount but the way the transactions were presented in the first place and the follow-up discussions. I hope this review will influence others to be more intelligent consumers. In addition I hope that Zimmerman Honda emphasizes to its sales associates to make sure they understand their customers’ expectations and before proceeding forward that all costs and options are understood and agreed upon. Zimmerman Honda in Moline, IL is a great place to go look at a Honda vehicle. We had not bought any new or used car in over 10 years, so we were not looking forward to dealing with any pushy Salespeople. F at a Honda vehicle. We had not bought any new or used car in over 10 years, so we were not looking forward to dealing with any pushy Salespeople. From reading other reviews on Dealer Rater about the great experience others had with Jeff Dolan (Salesman), we decided to ask for him to help us look at new and maybe used Honda Accords. Jeff was great to deal with, easy going, very knowledgeable about the Honda cars, gave us our space to look around, and answered all our questions (in person, over the phone, and by email). We also worked some with Noel Frideres, he was also very nice and not pushy at all. Jeff was not pushy at all, he let us test drive cars alone (he did not have to go along), and we dealt with him for well over a month. We were not in a hurry, look and drove many other brand cars, and decided on the Honda Accord for numerous reasons. Jeff Dolan was a pleasure to deal with in every aspect, professional, down-to-earth, and kind. He helped us get the car in the color we wanted and in a timely manner. We will always recommend Jeff to anyone who is looking at new or used cars! More

The entire sales experience was very professional! The dealership showroom was not chaotic like some I visited. The place was very relaxed, well staffed and clean. They went to a lot of effort to get me the car that I wanted and did not try to pressure me into taking a car that I did not want just because they had it on the lot. I got the options and the color I wanted, something that I found difficult at other dealers. I would recommend Louis and Zimmerman's to my friends. Compared to the other four dealerships that I visited Zimmerman's was the best. The final price I paid was less than what three other dealerships quoted me for the same car. The forth was the same as Zimmerman's however that dealer has a very bad reputation. Note that I was a sales manager for over 20 years so I am hard to please. If you want to get the right deal and service, ask for Louis! More
They sold us a great used Honda Civic at a good price and when it was wrecked four days later, they found us almost the same car in a couple weeks. Kevin is fun to talk with and didn't play games with us. He tried to get us what we wanted in a car. Hannah was a friendly receptionist, and Ricky was very fast at getting us the best deal on our loan, and completing the paperwork very efficiently. And we went through the whole thing twice because of the accident! I would recommend Zimmerman to my friends. More

My wife and I came looking for a Honda Civic, something newer than a 2007. Kevin took great care of us, making sure not to foist anything on us we didn't want, he stayed within those parameters. We found a newer than a 2007. Kevin took great care of us, making sure not to foist anything on us we didn't want, he stayed within those parameters. We found a car we liked, bought it, and were impressed with Kevin, Mark RC and Ricky in their thoroughness and friendly but professional manner. Sadly, four days later I was in an accident that totalled our car. As I waded through insurance, financing, court and medical care, these folks were sympathetic and attentive but didn't push. As things cleared for us, we came back, and Kevin had been on the lookout for something we could afford and take care of. We bought another car, but only after Ricky and RC as well as Kevin took what seemed like extra pains to make certain it was a quality vehicle within our stated budget. I have had many opportunities to buy cars, new, used from dealers and private sellers. From the owner of the dealership on down to the attentive and friendly person at the information desk, we have never been more satisfied with the car-buying experience. More

I bought my vehicle in February from Merlin after my previous car had been stolen. (He sold me that one, too!) With as stressful as the events were leading up to my need to purchase my new vehicle, it was a relief to know that I was in good hands at Zimmerman, especially with Merlin. He is never pushy, he is always very helpful and informative, and both times he sold me my vehicles, he went out of his way to make sure I had the best price and the best vehicle for my needs. I am sold on Hondas, I am impressed with the staff at Zimmerman Honda, and I would strongly recommend working with Merlin if you're in search of a new vehicle. More
