Improper installation of spark plugs My story begins on July 5, 2018 when I brought my 2008 Camry Hybrid (w/ 193K miles) in for servicing before moving to Texas. I asked for all hoses to My story begins on July 5, 2018 when I brought my 2008 Camry Hybrid (w/ 193K miles) in for servicing before moving to Texas. I asked for all hoses to be checked and run a diagnostic. We were told a misfire on the spark plugs. We agreed to have them changed out. One week later, July 13 we hit the road for the big move. About 3 hours outside of Portland on the first hill climb the engine revved really hard and the panel lit up. I lost acceleration and was dead on the side of the road about 35 miles outside of Hermiston, OR. We had car towed after waiting 2.5 hours in 106 degrees and sent the car to Rogers Toyota in Hermiston after hours on Friday. Saturday they ran a diagnostic and the spark plugs misfired. In opening the case....2 spark plugs were completely disconnected and ALL 4 were missing a connector that keeps the spark plug connected to the wire assembly. A critical piece for SAFE operation. The technician at Rogers said they were simply not installed or installed so poorly that all 4 "fell off" within a week? really? So I paid to have my car towed again to Kennewick, WA at the Toyota of Tri-Cities as they had full service on Saturdays. Upon speaking with Jumi at Tri-Cities Toyota and explaining our situation. She explained that our car now had a tremendous loud knocking indicative of a bad rod bearing. After calling to Wilsonville Toyota and speaking with the service manager he suggested that they may have to tow my car back to Wilsonville in order inspect and assess. I asked that if that was going to happen I would need a rental car immediately so my family could get back on the road as my 78 year old father-in-law was driving our 26' moving truck to Texas and we had limited time to have the rental truck. This was now late Saturday. The service manager informed me that he would have to escalate this to the GM as he would not be at work on Monday. Sunday was a dead day. On Monday I waited until 9:30am for a call and then I called the GM (Jim Waters) Mr Waters then began to question me on my vehicle on previous service and made a point to say that I had high mileage at almost 194k. Yes...what does that have to do with improperly installed spark plugs? I would think that the company (Toyota) would be proud that I was still driving it with high mileage...not to mention that it should go well into the 200's. Is this indicative of the quality that Toyota serves? He also tried to tell me that 2008 model had a history of those connectors falling off or breaking? Within 7 days? That is a problem...I would think they would address this if that was the case. He asked me what I wanted. I said " I want my car in running order. Your service manager suggested it be towed back to you so you can address the mistake and rectify the issue. I also need a rental car to get on the road to help my in-laws with the move who are now on day 4 of the move." Of course Mr Waters (THE GM) said he had to escalate this to someone higher. We waited for the call back. This is what he said when he called back " I am sorry that you are in this predicament but at this time you can elect to have the car repaired at your cost and then TRY to get reimbursed." I said "Try? to get reimbursed?" I was left over a barrel. We did not have the time nor the money as it turned out to try to repair a rod bearing. I was told by the tri-cities that the cost of doing that would have been more than the value of the car. Jomi Gross at Tri-Cities was angry about this and tried to help. She fixed the connectors and put in a heavy oil change. She said that it would be really loud driving and was not likely going to make it to Texas. On Tuesday (4 days in Hermiston) we go pick up car...could not safely drive it above 40 mph. We were forced to sell it for parts, rent a trailer to get back on the road. I would rate this service well below one star and shame on this place for running a business as such. I am sure that technician has their car to drive to work everyday and I no longer have a car for my new start in Texas....I just want my car back. I am in over $1300 in just expenses for those 4 days...the stress and suffering was off the scale. I just want my car. Don't trust these people with your car. They are Full of Bull. More
