After many weeks of research my fiance and I had decided to purchase a Toyota 4runner. We had certain criteria which had to be met first. These terms included a vehicle that had less than 30k miles, a price to purchase a Toyota 4runner. We had certain criteria which had to be met first. These terms included a vehicle that had less than 30k miles, a price tag of less than 25k, and was 4wd. We found 5 such vehicles within a 500 mile distance of Bangor, ME using autotrader. We made the 7 hour trip down to Long Island, NY where 4 of the 5 were located. It just so happens that Westbury Toyota was the first in line of these dealerships working West to East so this was the first stop. It was 1215 in the afternoon. We met with a salesman, Trevor, who was nice enough and sat us down to begin talking business. My first question to him was what our trade in was worth. I had already called around and found out from the few dealerships in the area who were willing to give a quote over the phone had estimated 7k based on the good condition and low mileage 48k of our 2006 Nissan Sentra. I had made up my mind prior to even arriving that I would accept no less than 6k. They're first offer of $4300 was an insult and we were ready to walk right then. After saying as much he asked what we were looking for and I said 6k. He scoffed and said that this was a good price and it was not worth that much. When I countered that I had spoken to a rep at Competition Toyota and was offered closer to 7k his tune changed. I explained to him what he probably already was aware of and that is the fact the trade-in value of vehicles in the area are based on the rough condition NADA value. He countered with an offer of 5k, then 5300, and another at 5700 stating this was the best he could do. We asked to see the vehicle and my fiance and I looked over the vehicle. While doing so we decided we didnt drive all this way to purchase the first vehicle that we had seen. I returned to the sales desk to retrieve my belongings and explained that we were leaving and he then came up to the 6k that we wanted. I wish that we had walked but we didnt. I sat back down and we began going over the numbers. Saw the Carfax, it was clean and dated for Sept. The purchase price on the autotrader ad was 23980 and indicated that it was a Toyota Certified vehicle. They also mention time and time again that their are no hidden fees it's also plastered all over the entrance of the showroom. He even made the point of taking out samples of all the other dealerships invoices showing me all of the fees those dealers charge to close such a deal. It was at this time that he also explained that the Toyota Cert. was something I had to pay for additionally and was not included in the purchase price. I declined the warranty. The total after trade-in was just over 18k and the understood tax and dmv. Took a test drive and liked it. Signed documents so they could get the financing in order. Total tax $1080, reg/dmv fees $250, and title $75 which I thought was a bit high but was a number I could live with. Time was 1:23. Trevor rushed me out of his office and stated it would be about 40 min for dmv and financing to be completed. Over 3 hours later My fiance, who is pregnant, our dog, and I are sitting outside in our recently traded-in vehicle waiting for this deal to be over. If we hadn't signed I would have driven off and found another vehicle but they had our purchase agreement signed so we were stuck and I still had the drive back to Maine to look forward to which they were well aware of. Eventually, Nick, the finance guru joined the fun and it was paperwork time. He presents me with a series of documents that needed my signature and while reading through them I could see and hear that he was getting frustrated that I wasn't just whipping through them and signing where he directed. I am glad that I did as I noted numerous discrepancies...the first of which was a Carfax report from June that he wanted me to sign that was different from the one I viewed earlier. This Carfax that the vehicle had a branded title and was NAM, or not actual mileage. I said I would not buy. He stormed out and got his manager. They explained to me that the vehicle was off lease and that leasing agencies will sometimes register in more than one state which was reflected in the latter Carfax so this combined with the fact that I had wasted my entire car buying day in this one dealership convince me. Upon further review of the documents I see that they had added a $75 documentary fee and had altered the taxes somehow to reflect a nearly $100 difference between the number I had agreed to purchase the vehicle for prior to finance and the number before me. I once again stated I was not agreeing to this and said that I would walk. We started arguing loudly and he called for Trevor to side with him on the fact that this fee must have been explained to me once before. Trevor took one dumbfounded look at the invoice and said "what is that" and after Nick tried to explain it to him Trevor said "I don't understand that". Then Nick changed his arguement and stated that it was an error on Trevor's behalf but that the increased number would stand. I argued that this was the salesman's responsibility and that we should not be renegotiating the contract at this point.I stated that it was not my problem if they did not correctly price the invoice and that they should eat it the expense. Albeit a hidden one. I also reminded Nick how forcefully they pronounce that they are hidden fee free. Nick, aggravated, once again leaves to seek managerial counsel. He returns and states that the best they can do is to issue me a $75 credit check refund as the document cannot be altered. With the time that I had set aside to search for a new vehicle wasted and a pregnant woman and dog waiting on me I relented. I was given my set of keys and left. No congratulations, handshake, or good-bye of any sort. Time is now 5:45. In a word unproffessional. The entire experience left me feeling that the outlook they have on business is that they were doing me a favor. I was left frustrated and exhausted. My first Toyota dealership experience will probably be my last...It has been two weeks since writing that review, since that time I have not received my $75 credit check. Postal time was not the issue as I have received via USPS a computer generated thank you letter from Westbury. Also, It took 7 unreturned phone calls over the span of 4 days to Iris, their DMV service rep, to receive a return phone call. After 4 days of being ignored I finally get a call back, not by Iris but by Trevor, the salesman. I explained to him my concern that I would be spending more time in Maine than I had anticipated while working for the Army and that I would like to change my registration from Connecticut to Maine. He said no that the registration must occur in the state that was provided at the time of purchase. Then he said that I can register in Maine if I like after paying to register in CT. Thanks for the permission Trev. This new scenario will end up costing us hundreds more(possibly over a 1000 if have to pay taxes again)than if they would just change the address on the purchase. Which they've done to the numbers 2 times thus far. Their refusal, even though nothing has been sent to DMV at that point, is indicative of how this dealer values customer service. I know nothing has been delivered to DMV at this point because part of the deal hinged on my ability to provide them with a CT drivers license as working for the military has me moving around quite a bit. At the time of purchase I agreed to make the 5 hour drive to CT and apply for my license and take the vehicle thru the emissions test prior to registration and title. This past weekend I did just that based on their refusal to work with me. I was issued the license and put the vehicle thru emissions and had the VIN verification done. Today I time off of work, faxed as instructed, called to verify all was taken care of and Trevor replies yes, nothing further. Return to work. An hour passes and Trevor is calling me to say that they now need the original emissions test results, take additional time off of work make copies of original and send the original off. This vehicle has cost me much more time and money than it was worth and while I do accept some of the responsibility I do hold Westbury Toyota significantly at fault for making this the worst car buying experience of our lives. The $75 check did arrive about 2 weeks later. More
Let me start out by saying I will never buy a car from Westbury again. I have bought a few cars from dealerships before and this is by far the worst experience I've had. My boyfriend and I drove 6 hours t Westbury again. I have bought a few cars from dealerships before and this is by far the worst experience I've had. My boyfriend and I drove 6 hours to look at cars in the area. When we got there, Trevor, the salesperson seemed nice enough and we got our trade in appraised. Of course, as expected they only wanted to give us $1700 below what we wanted. Trevor eventually gave us our minimum we would take and we signed the initial contract. BIG MISTAKE! From that point they made us wait an additional 2 hours while they "prepared the papers". They are quick to get you to sign, then make you wait. Then, once we sat down to sign the finance paperwork, they tried to tack on another $75 fee! We were assured several times by Trevor that there weren't going to be any additional fees and the amount we signed for was the out the door price, not to mention they have a sign right on there door that says they don't have any hidden fees. We were ready to walk out the door over the $75 just over principle. Nick, the finance guy, called Trevor in the office and put him on the spot in front of us about neglecting to tell us about the $75. It made Trevor look like an idiot and Nick look like a jerk. I was appalled. Eventually Nick said he would submit a refund request for the $75, which we agreed to.. We'll see if we ever get the refund. Nick had to be the most unprofessional person I've ever met. It's one thing to not have people skills, but this guy was outright rude. He was visibally impatient while we were reading the fine print before signing and he actually argued with us about the $75. After everything was signed, he said "all done" and got up and walked out the door. No "thank you" or even "have a good day," nothing. Toyota makes great cars, but I would recommend everyone go to a different dealership to get your Toyota. More

I am someone that does my own reserach before going into a Showroom. He was friendly and not overbearing. Gave me some time to look around but right there and acknowledged me when I was ready for details on the car. When I am ready to buy a car, I will definitely come back and ask for Mark Jama. More

From walking through the entrance of Westbury Toyota to driving my new Rav4 off the lot - it was all a good experience. The sales associates and service staff were all friendly, knowledgable, helpful driving my new Rav4 off the lot - it was all a good experience. The sales associates and service staff were all friendly, knowledgable, helpful and very professional. The object of my visit was to purchase/lease a vehicle. And my salespersons (Mark Jama) objective was to do the same! Mark was diligent in providing me with as much information as possible so that I would be able to make an informed decision on any vechicle that I had an interest in. I also felt that it was important to him, that I be happy with my decision, no matter the outcome. Nick (financing) did his due diligence and made sure that I knew exactly what is was that I was signing. Answered all my questions and explained all the legalese. The follow-up by both Mark and Nick was stellar. As well as the commucaitions recieved from Customer Service and the Service Manager. There is no doubt where my next Toyota will come from (this is my fourth). I can only hope that the same people will be there to help me through the process once again! More
