Unfortunately, Volvo Cars of Plymouth had the vehicle, a 2014 VW Touareg R-Line TDI, that I had been searching for; it should have stayed in Plymouth, MA!! Since delivery, the VW Touareg has had numerous visits to the dealership to resolve phantom issues. Most recently and currently, the VW has been in the shop since January 30, 2020 due to exhaust entering the cabin through the a/c vents. (1) The problem with exhaust entering the cabin was a known issue by Volvo Cars of Plymouth. FACT: The VW Touareg was delivered with all interior vents in the closed position and the HVAC system operating in the recirculation mode. I thought this was odd…. unbeknownst to me…. the reason was “someone” (Volvo Cars of Plymouth) knew exhaust was leaking into the cabin. Rewinding to day two after delivery (November 3, 2019), the check engine light illuminated. After almost a month of intermittent check engine light issues and frequent diagnostics by my local reputable VW dealership, it was determined a major component of the emission system was faulty. (2) The check engine light was a known issue by Volvo Cars of Plymouth. The check engine light was reset so the VW would operate marginally for a few hours to a day before coming back on. FACT: This issue was not sprouted on DAY 2 of ownership; this was an existing system failure and the check engine light was cleared before shipping to Texas. Major issue #3, rust… rust…. and rust. My first conversation with Ken Scalia back in October 2019 was inquiring about the VW Touareg having rust. I was always told not to buy cars from the Northern US due to extreme winters and the use of salt or other rust causing agents on the road…... Boy o’ Boy should I have listened!!!!! Being so overwhelmed with the initial drivability issues and being delivered at dusk, it was several days before I looked closely at the exterior of the VW Touareg. What piqued my interest was I looked down at the brake calipers and noticed the mounting bolts were rusty. After further investigation, I found rust on major components of the suspension, brake system, auto-lift gate suspension, and the electronics of the towing/brake system. When I addressed the rust issues with the General Manager (Mark Leone) he dismissed the emailed pictures as “normal” for a vehicle its age. (3) Volvo Cars of Plymouth is very aware of their winter conditions and the effect on vehicles driven extensively and inclusively in this area of the USA. FACT: The status of the VW not having rust was misrepresented by the salesman (Ken Scalia). Whatever it takes to make a sale ….. RIGHT???!! There were several missing items when the VW was delivered. Missing where the privacy cover from the luggage compartment, an advertised window sticker, and the owner’s manual. I had to email the GM to get those issues resolved. The salesman (Ken Scalia) dismissed my inquiry as “it’s a used car” you get what you get…… Mind you, I paid $18,500 for it. Should have bought a new Toyota Corolla. The GM made attempts to appease the situation and made good on a couple items, but ultimately this was to stretch and buy time through the no return zone. Around the 30ish day all negotiations/emails stopped. There was no further contact from the GM (Mark Leone) as I had asked for a refund or price adjustment for the misrepresentation, drivability issues, and the rust bucket issues. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of MA to seek resolution, however, Volvo Cars of Plymouth failed to return any inquires that the BBB of MA made of them. FACT: Volvo Cars of MA is guilty as charged: SOLD A MISREPRESENTED 2014 VW TOUAREG R-LINE TDI WITH KNOWN ISSUES. Stuck walking in Texas…..at least it not snowing. More
