I have purchased three vehicles from Clearlake Volkswagen, and that will be my last. Not because of the sales people or the finance people… They are great. The people who check you in and the serv Volkswagen, and that will be my last. Not because of the sales people or the finance people… They are great. The people who check you in and the service department leadership could care less about you as a customer. Previously, I was given assurances about what to expect this morning, and I was completely let down and no service recovery whatsoever was offered because of those two interactions I will never purchase a vehicle from that dealership and will take my business elsewhere. Very disappointing. More
Bait & switch - I called in ahead of time to confirm availability of a car I found online. They confirmed it and then claimed it had been sold by the time I got there 30 min later. availability of a car I found online. VW Clearlake employs a number of business practices that are, at best questionable, and at worst unconscionable. 1. VW Clearlake charges a $1000 fee if you use non-dealership financing. Prior to are, at best questionable, and at worst unconscionable. 1. VW Clearlake charges a $1000 fee if you use non-dealership financing. Prior to arriving at the dealership, I forwarded documentation from my credit union showing the rate the credit union offered me. The dealership could not offer a better rate. The finance manager subsequently informed me that if I chose to use my credit union’s better financing, the dealership would increase the price of the car by $1,000 to “compensate the dealership for the extra time and cost associated with difficulty securing funds from non-dealership approved financial institutions.” Buyer beware; surely one of the many other VW dealerships in the Houston area don’t follow this practice. 2. VW Clearlake charges $399 for “VIN etching” regardless of whether you request it or not. When reviewing the sales contract, I noticed a $399 fee for VIN etching. I told the finance manager that I didn’t request VIN etching and didn’t want to pay for it. Alternatively, $399 sounded like an exorbitant amount for this “service.” Finance manager could not tell me specifically what was VIN etched. He then produced a piece of paper that he represented was from Volkswagen stating that the average cost of VIN etching was $1000 and I should “appreciate the good deal the dealership was giving me.” Finance manager told me I could “take it or leave it.” Seriously, is a thief really going to stop mid-theft if he notices something is VIN etched? If it is that effective, why didn’t my insurance company offer me a discount on my insurance? If there was value in VIN etching, the manufacturer would incorporate it into their manufacturing process. 3. VW Clearlake requires buyers to sign a arbitration agreement with the dealership as a condition of sale A dealership that focuses on outstanding customer service, that sells a best in class product, should have no need to require their customers to sign an arbitration agreement. I don’t imagine the Sewell dealerships require their customers to sign arbitration agreements. I would absolutely never recommend this dealership and only purchased a car from them due to the extremely limited inventory of ID4s available. More
I was helped by Kenny Lightfoot. Even though they did not have it right there at the dealership, he found me the exact car I wanted (even color), worked with me on a price and financ Even though they did not have it right there at the dealership, he found me the exact car I wanted (even color), worked with me on a price and financing I felt confortable with and even delivered it to my house a couple of days later when it arrived (on a rainy weekday at 7:00pm!). Awesome Customer service from Kenny. The RReason I gave 3 stars is that the car was supposed to be delivered with 9 miles on the odometer. The distance from the dealership to my house is roughly 50 miles, so rounding up, 100 miles on the odometer would have been ok. However, the car had 640 miles on the odometer and a slight scratch on the front right bumper which we realized next day as it was dark when we received the car. I think they should have disclosed that, as this was probably a demo vehicle and not a brand new one, which they did not say anything at all. More
I have enjoyed every vehicle I have purchased from VW Clear Lake. The sales people are great. The service department is okay, but has struggled with timely communication in the past. Be careful with the Clear Lake. The sales people are great. The service department is okay, but has struggled with timely communication in the past. Be careful with the finance department—they’ll slip add-ons in without warning! More
