While test driving our van, which was used, we were reassured that every used vehicle that is brought into Vern Eide Honda is serviced and inspected completely and the tires are guaranteed to have at least 50% tread. We purchased the van thinking we were gething a great vehicle at a great price from a great dealership. Vern Eide sends out coupons to you to get your car serviced there after your purchase. We used the "free fall inspection" coupon less than 3 months after purchasing our van. They called and told us we had a transmission leak and needed to replace our tires because they were down to the threads. The cost to fix these things was just under $800. We called our salesperson and asked how our tires could be down to the thread less than 3 months after purchasing the van when we were told it would have at least 50% tread left... We didn't even drive the van 3000 miles since purchasing it and the tires suddenly were in desperate need of being replaced? We asked for a discount or some kind of reimbursement. We were told that wasn't possible because we had bought the van "as is". Our van had been thoroughly inspected but the tires did not have 50% tread and there was nothing they could do now since it was a used "as is" purchase. We knew we had bought the van "as is", but our understanding was that the "as is" was after the inspection and the tire tread guarantee. After all, we had been told that Vern Eide's protocol for used vehicles is to have a thorough inspection and at least 50% tread left on the tires before selling. We felt like they lied to us to get us to buy the vehicle and then refused to make it right when we asked them about the promised "inspection" and rule of "at least 50% tire tread". While it could have been the service workers who dropped the ball on the inspection and said the tires had at least 50% tire tread when they did not, unbeknownst to our salesperson, it just felt like we were being scammed by the dealership as a whole. I believe our salesperson felt sorry for the whole ordeal. After a few days of talking to people at Vern Eide's, they finally apologized and gave us a check for half the cost of the tires. While I'm not sure I'll be back for service or to buy a vehicle from them any time soon, it did soften our anger towards them. More
