The accident totaled our car and left us with a 12+ hour drive remaining with no transportation. Insurance covered the expense of a rental car, but the closest business was in Sioux Falls, SD, which was 78 miles away. However, our "good neighbor" insurance did not offer a plan to get us to Sioux Falls. We were on our own, still 700 miles away from home and knowing no one and having no information except for the place where the car was towed - Vern Eide Chevrolet. We called the dealership and talked to Lori to ask about using a loaner car to drive to Sioux Falls. At that point, our option was to use a "loaner" car from Vern Eide to drive to Sioux Falls (78 miles), pick up the rental car, drive back to Vern Eide (78 miles) and then head back to Indiana. Lori came to our rescue and not only found a truck to take us to Sioux Falls, but also a driver so that we would not have to make more than one trip back and forth. Julie (our driver) picked us up at the hotel, took us to the dealership so that we could gather our stuff from the wrecked car and got us safety to the rental car agency. I could not have asked or expected a kinder or more generous group of people to help us during the process. Lori and Julie didn't know us at all and had nothing to gain from their efforts, except our gratitude. And, as if the dealership wasn't doing enough for us, they would not charge us for the transportation. The people at Vern Eide took care of us with the compassion and consideration that continues to amaze and impress me. Had it not been for them, I'm not sure how we would have made it to Sioux Falls. (Julie even stayed with us at the rental agency and helped unload all our cargo, including our two bicycles. She is a super-woman and my new hero.) Lori and Julie were a Godsend in the midst of a very stressful situation. Each lady was so personable and kind and they took care of us as if we were family. If the people at Vern Eide treat strangers in this manner, I can only imagine how they take care of their customers. If I lived in the area, I wouldn't buy a car anywhere else. Traveler receives Excellent Service...Above & Beyond. At 170,000 miles I would expect some issues from time to time. Temp control with a 2 month old in the truck is more important than you might think, especially on a 2100+ mile trip. I went on the internet with my iPhone and checked for a Ford Dealership in the closest town, Mitchell SD. Found Vern Side Ford at 2300 N. Main. Called the listed phone number and requested service department. Was delightfully greeted, in a very timely mannor on the phone by Service Advisor, Tami Winter. She immediately took ownership of my issue & the challenges it presented, providing me with the best customer service I could only dream off. Note: I had worked in customer service for over 33 years and this young lady went above and beyond with every step of the process, beginning to end. Though out every touch point of the process I kept thinking to my self, not only would I want Tami to work for me, if I owned a business, but I would want Tami to run any businesses I might have, and to teach the other employees what Over-the-Top customer service is all about, that is if she was ever available. Vern Side Ford & its customers are a better business with Tami working for them. From Tami The Beginning: providing me with directions to the dealership, To the End:to calling me on my cell prior to her going home for the day to see if the service performed on my truck met with my satisfaction and was working properly & everything (to much to mention in writing) but the details of her skills in customer service are above any imagined level of perception. Surrounding Tami with the tools of excellent Technicians, Robert Christenser & Erik Kurth, timely service was received without having an appointment. Vern Side was also physically designed for providing the best service you could expect, shy of having a masseuse in the customer waiting area, they had it all. I am highly recommending Vern Eide to all customers in this area or passing through in their travels like I was, who are looking for service on their vehicles.
