The consumer did purchase a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta on April 18th, 2013 from the dealership. I have reviewed the purchase agreement and all relevant paperwork including the option the consumer had to purchase an extended warranty that may have covered the cost of repairs. The consumer declined the warranty option and signed to purchase the Volkswagen As-Is. The customer did contact us on Saturday August 17th with the air conditioning concern. I received the concern first thing in the morning on Monday the 19th and called the consumer right away. She explained the situation to me that the air conditioning had quit and that she had taken the vehicle to her own mechanic who quoted her around $1,300 to fix the air. I stated to her that I would look into a few options and call her back. A short time later the same day I spoke to the consumer and offered to look at the air conditioning at no cost as well as speak to the finance company about trading the car for another one. She brought the car in that afternoon for us to look at and we offered to fix the issue for $800.00. We did inform her that there was a 50% chance that the air conditioning could need additional repairs in the near future. The next day I spoke with the consumer about the repairs and the cost of $800.00 and we both agreed that she should look at the option of trading the car in for another one. She came in that evening and we looked at a couple of options if she was to trade and she left to think about her options overnight. She called the following day and stated that she could not pay $25.00 more per month for the vehicle we were able to trade her into. I offered the option of fixing the Jetta and using our 0% payment option which she declined. I had the customer speak with the finance company which agreed to add 50% of the repair to the end of the loan if the consumer paid for the other 50% of the repair which she declined. I understand the consumer’s frustration about the air conditioning going out after four months. The dealership is more than willing to offer options for a solution to the problem, but needs participation from the consumer to solve the problem. I have spoken to the consumer several times about her issue and she can feel free to contact me again about a resolution to her concern. Sincerely, R.
