At 8:40 Am on 2/2/24 I received a text from Christi Shadrick reaching out to me concerning an on-line inquiry from the evening of 2/1/24. About 8:50 Am I received a call from Clay Hudson and we began Shadrick reaching out to me concerning an on-line inquiry from the evening of 2/1/24. About 8:50 Am I received a call from Clay Hudson and we began conversation concering a used Toyota that I was interested in purchasing. I live in Bristol, Va. which is about three hours from the dealership. In talking with Clay I asked if he would look over the car for blemishes. He did so and advised the only real issues he could see was two of the wheels had been curbed. He also advised me the wheels were scheduled for repair and the person to repair the wheels was scheduled to be there on Monday. He later informed me the wheels were actually being repaired today 2/2/24. He advised further that if I would like to come on Saturday 1/3/24 or Monday 1/5/24 that would be best. Later Clay informed me the Rav 4 would be ready to review and drive on Saturday morning about 9:30. So off to the Credit Union I go to make arrangements to pick up a check to bring on Saturday morning with all intentions of closing the sale. Around 3:30 or so I get a call from the used car manager informing me that the car was no longer available and had been sold. Sold right out from under me!!! Explanation being that the dealership could not hold used cars. I wasn't asking the dealership to hold a car I was only trying to agree on a schedule to be there. While talking to the manager I even offered to wire the total purchase amount to the dealership until we could agree on a day and time to be there. This is the worst case of poor communication between sales and finance that I've ever witnessed. To further add fuel to the fire the sales manager implied that he had spoke with Clay concerning the vehicle and wanted to call me personally. After I had a period of time to somewhat cool down I made a call to Clay and he was totally unaware of what had transpired . Appears the sales manager had no idea that I would call Clay after our conversation. Did the sales manager tell me something that was untrue. It sure appears so. When I advised Clay he said he would check on the matter and call me back but that hasn't happened. I'm of the opinion he was told not to call me back. I had been looking for a used Rav4 Hybrid with the features this vehicle possessed and what a disappointment to lose the purchase. I can remember the day when it was all about the customer. Greg Reantillo was such a pleasure to work with when buying my Rav4. He was very calm and knowledgeable about the vehicle and gave us plenty of time to play around with the gadgets and take it out for a buying my Rav4.
