I called Vandergriff after receiving a letter and some vouchers. I initially tried to explain my situation over the phone and hoped to get a sense of whether it would valuable to come in at this time or p vouchers. I initially tried to explain my situation over the phone and hoped to get a sense of whether it would valuable to come in at this time or perhaps wait for my credit to improve. This was my 1st mistake: to expect that the salesman might answer a question in any way other than "buy a new car." I understand that the salesman's job is to sell cars but there should also be some concern for the needs of the customer. I had a 2009 Prius and was paying an 8.5% rate on the loan. I knew that new rates were low so I thought there might be a slim possibility of actually lowering my payment by getting a new car. The vouchers I received suggested that that might be possibility. A couple of the offers were 0% rates for 6 years and 90 days of no payments. These things were not offered to me even though these hooks were used to lure me into the store. The salesman showed me a pre-owned but very nice car and we began to deal. My goal coming in was to possibly improve my budget situation. I tried to explain that but I am not sure that mattered to him. The initial offer, $700, would have raised my payment by $283. There was no way I could do that. From our previous conversation it is unbelievable to me that they would even make such an offer. I now believe that it was not a serious offer but that it was used to make all the susequent offers look spectacular. I said that it looked as if we would be able to do business today. They then asked if they could get it to $430 would I accept. I reluctantly said yes. They came back with $469. I said no. They proposed $420 but then came back with $439. I accepted this after much conversation. It seemed like a great deal but I should have honored my budget. I accepted it. When I went to sign the loan another $20 was added on to cover gap insurance. I feel like such a fool today. And I am concerned about my already tight budget. I may have made a great deal on the car but realizing that the 1st offer was bogus I am not sure if it was so great. Whatever the the deal kight have been I did not make a great deal for myself. I realize it is my fault for being caught up in it and I allowed myself to focus on the deal rather than my budget. As I left from signing the papers the finance agent wanted to make sure he could reach me by phone on Tuesday (the next day the banks open). There was almost an implication that there might be a change in the loan. So now I am worried about that. (I did not get a call so I guess everything is OK.) Vandergriff utilizes the car selling techniques that so often make people hate car salesmen. I sat for long periods of time. They took my car keys in order to inspect it for the trade-in but did not return them so I could not leave. In my profession I charge people for the time. My time is valuable. I am also a father and that time is also valuable. They had no regard for my time. In the coiurse of the dealings they focused on the great deal when I needed to be focused on the payment. I was constantly told that I was upside down on my old car and needed to get out from that. I then had to buy gap insurance because I am already upside on the new one. All that talk about being upside down was a complete ruse. I don't think Vandergriff respected my intentions as a customer, they did not respect the value of my time (I was there 5 hours), and I do not think they respected me as a person. I will not go back. I will not recommend Vandergriff to anyone else. More
Friday I came to Vandergriff Toyota to see a Toyota Yaris for my grandson. I had called first to make sure the car was still available and talked to a salesperson named Alex. Over the phone, Alex told me t for my grandson. I had called first to make sure the car was still available and talked to a salesperson named Alex. Over the phone, Alex told me the price of the vehicle was $11, 400. I told him that it was out of the price range for my grandson. Alex took my number and told me he would see if there was any lead way to the price. He called me back in a few minutes and told me that he could do $10,900 plus TTT. I told him that I would come over in the afternoon and look at it. When I arrived, I was surprised to see the vehicle for it was fairly void of options, but low on mileage. Considering the car and my grandson's affordability, I offered Alex $10,400. He said he could not do this. Ok, I left and was discussing the situation with the other grandmother. We decided to give more money for the down payment and called Alex. We told Alex we would pay the $10,900. He said the price was $11,400, so I said OK we will have to let it go. Alex called me back in a few minutes and told me he would sell for $10,900. I turned around and returned to the dealership thinking all was a go. I already had financing set up through my credit union, so I thought all is well. Alex wanted us to check with the finance man to see if he could do better than the credit union. After awhile, Alex returned with papers and the final price was over $12,000. I asked why would TTT be over $1900. Alex said the price was $11,400. Once again, I said No and left. Alex called before I got out of the parking lot saying I could have the car for $10,900. Please notice how many times the price changed.. By this time I was disgusted and tired. I got to the dealership at 2:30 and it is now 7:40. Alex said we would have to meet with the finance man, Andre. Notice no last name even though I asked several people. When I went in to his office, I told him that I was tired of all this garbage and did not want any hassles. He asked me to leave his office immediately. I considered garbage a good word considering all the words I was thinking at this point. The other grandmother went ahead and signed the papers, etc. for we were too tired to start over. More
After having issues with the alignment on my car for several months, and previously taking my car in for service at another Toyota dealership, I took my Camry to Vandergriff Toyota of Arlington when it several months, and previously taking my car in for service at another Toyota dealership, I took my Camry to Vandergriff Toyota of Arlington when it started to get a vibration. I told the service advisor, Ryan, of the issues I’d been having and what another Toyota store had recommended. I tried to give him as much information as possible so the technician could determine the issue. The technician performed the alignment, and even commented after being asked to come talk to me after the procedure that the alignment was just barely out of spec on one wheel(only .14 out on the left front wheel). Ryan, myself and the technician spoke for about 15 minutes about what could be wrong with the car and where to go from there. The technician said everything was checked out and he did not know what the issue was. When asked specifically about the tires, he said they were fine. When asked specifically about the steering components, he said they were fine. The next day, I took my car to Discount Tire to have the tires rotated and was informed I had a tire that had separated and was about to blow out – hence the vibration. The day after that while changing my oil, I found a steering rack boot completely shredded and power steering oil covering the underside of my car – remember, the Vandergriff tech said everything was fine. After this information was given to Pat Lemieux, Service Manager, he asked me why I, and I’m not a technician, hadn’t caught this before if I change my own oil. Not only did the technician NOT do the multi-point inspection they say comes with every service, but he also lied about checking all of these items directly to my face. When talking with Pat and Ryan about all these issues the following week, I was astonished at the complete lack of any acceptance that they missed all these things. I knew I wouldn't get my money back going in there and I didn't even bring up a reimbursement on our last meeting but the smugness and condescending tone he took throughout our conversation was more than I could handle. I’ve worked in the auto industry for over 10 years now and I was a service advisor at 2 dealerships for 3 of those years – never have I heard of a Toyota dealership treat people this way nor have I seen such a absolute lack of willingness to help in any way. While I could write a long, extensive review of our recent experience at Vandergriff Toyota, I'll keep it short & to the point. We traveled 90 miles (one way) to purchase a new 2012 Prius. Dealership w recent experience at Vandergriff Toyota, I'll keep it short & to the point. We traveled 90 miles (one way) to purchase a new 2012 Prius. Dealership was busy, no place to park, the facility was less pristine than what I expected from Toyota. Typical big car dealer with all the normal dealership BS. Our sales rep was Glen Byrd, a nice guy, but with only very limited authority to make the sale. Constantly running back & forth to "the big guys" to get the real price on the vehicle was quite irritating to us. MSRP on our car was inflated by about $4000.00 with crappy dealer add-ons. We had to negotiate back down to get back to the original MSRP. They low balled us on the initial offer on our trade in order to later come up to make the deal. Overall, the experience was just exhausting and arduous. We were well armed with information on pricing and trade values from other sources and in the end, we finalized the purchase at MSRP less roughly $500.00, which we felt was a fair price. An uninformed buyer would certainly be in trouble here. The dealership survey, immediately at the end of the sale, was also unexpected and inappropriate. Would we purchase another car Vandergriff Toyota? Probably not. More
Back in the summer of 2011 someone pulled out in front of my '08 Highlander and was deemed totaled by the insurance company. I was compensated for my loss and began car shopping at local dealerships to repla my '08 Highlander and was deemed totaled by the insurance company. I was compensated for my loss and began car shopping at local dealerships to replace the Toyota. At the time I had 3 different Toyotas and all were dealer maintained at Vandergriff, I decided to keep my business at Vandergriff. I received a recommendation from my service advisor to meet with one of the used-car staff, Shirley Miller. I went into the dealership a couple of times but she was not there both times. Spoke with someone else there and they took down my contact information, my vehicle request, and how much I was looking to spend. During the next couple of weeks our paths never coincided and we never met. We exchanged multiple emails and every email sent from Shirley was her attempt to upsell me to a newer and more expensive vehicle. Nothing she offered came close to what I wanted. I've owned many Toyotas and I know what I want and what I should be able to spend. After multiple attempts I became so frustrated that I decided not to replace my 3rd Toyota, and I still had 2 more in the garage. Vandergriff not only lost the sale of the vehicle, they lost out on revenue for one of my Toyotas in their service department. They lost twice. If I am a constant customer with 3 vehicles int heir service department, you would think the sales team would want to value my business. Guess not. More
This was the best car buying experience that I have ever had. Shirley was very friendly, as was the entire sales staff. There were three identical vehicles that I was interested in and was able to test dr had. Shirley was very friendly, as was the entire sales staff. There were three identical vehicles that I was interested in and was able to test drive each one. Afterwards, we discussed the sales price. After very little negotiation, I had the deal I wanted. Shirley and the Manager wanted me to be satisfied and were very willing to work within my budget. I was driving away in my newly purchased vehicle in less than 3 hours. I would definitely recommend Vandergriff Toyota Pre-owned to anyone looking to buy a vehicle. More
I was talking with saleperson about the trade in pricing and we both agreed a price. Hoewevr, they changed it when I whent to buy the car and they refused to give the price we aggreed. Fist time they gave m and we both agreed a price. Hoewevr, they changed it when I whent to buy the car and they refused to give the price we aggreed. Fist time they gave me $7. 5K for my 2010 Rav4 with 14k miles. I wanted $12K and then few guys came and they offered me to lease 2012 Rav4 for $272/m and when I was asking about the trade in price they did not let me see the price they wanted to give and told me do not worry about that. So, I found the price they gave me for the trade in was $8250 when I went to lease the new Rav4. I think they tricked me about the trade in. So do not agree anything without goung through the pricing carefully. More
I am really pleased with my overall experience with Vandergriff Toyota. I have read some bad reviews, and it appears that many of them are because they got an Old School type car salesman using the ol Vandergriff Toyota. I have read some bad reviews, and it appears that many of them are because they got an Old School type car salesman using the old outdated techniques of the 70's and 80's. Those techniques make me sick as well. I conducted almost my entire transaction over email. Pricing. Options. Color. The whole deal. My salesman, Mo Sayed, was professional. Didn't play the tired old games. And didn't continue to BEG me to come in and take a test drive every third sentence. I shopped his price and shopped it HARD. 2 other dealerships got a price similar. But not until they refused several times to give me the price until I CAME IN FOR A TEST DRIVE. I knew what I wanted.. .They just wanted to capture me in the Closing Chair. Mo's price was very fair. He got me the exact vehicle I wanted. I spent a whopping hour in the dealership signing the paperwork. And all the numbers added up. I take it in every Monday for a free car wash. I can't vouch for the rest of the salespeople. But I can vouch for Mo. If you want a good experience without all the stupid car sales games, GO visit Mo. Warmest Regards, G S Lewis More
