Peyton was very helpful, informative, up front, friendly. Had most information at his fingertips, and was willing to quickly find out answers to my questions when he did not have them himself. Considering that the dealership was not at all busy, I'm not sure why I had to wait so long to see the finance guy. More
I start this review by saying I have family members and friends who have purchased their vehicles at Van Horn Budget and their experiences have been mostly positive. I went into the car buying experience f friends who have purchased their vehicles at Van Horn Budget and their experiences have been mostly positive. I went into the car buying experience for my daughter’s replacement car with high expectations of Van Horn Budget given the positive experiences of people I know. I was to the dealer lot on 1/3/2022 and saw a vehicle my daughter liked. After looking over the car and seeing nothing disclosed on the vehicle condition information, I used Van Horn’s text message service to agree on a price and that I would stop today 1/4/2022 for a test drive and with money for purchase. Today I stopped and talked to Peyton who walked me around the car and went over the disclosure of condition information with me. Peyton advised there was nothing according to the disclosure of vehicle condition that was noted as an issue. I concurred there was nothing disclosed as a concern on the disclosure of condition information. My daughter and I took the car for a test drive and after about 5 minutes my daughter noticed the heat/cooling fan only worked on 4 (full blast). The blower would not work on heat or AC on level 1, 2, or 3. After driving back to the dealership I advise Peyton that there is an issue with the blower working only at the highest speed. Peyton confirmed the blower only working at its highest speed then went and talked to his sales manager, Deric Lightle. After talking with Deric, Peyton came back to advise his sales manager couldn’t go any lower as they had agreed on a $1000 discounted price before I came out to test drive the car but he could add the $1000 back on and have the blower fixed. I advised Peyton that I was sorry but I was going to pass on the car as I wasn’t interested in fixing the blower or paying extra on the vehicle as it was not disclosed that the heat/cold blower was an issue. Peyton then asked Deric to come talk to me. My brief discussion with Deric is when Van Horn Budget lost my business and I can only assume Deric has lost other business for Van Horn as well. Deric comes to me introduces himself and I advise that I am sorry but I am not going to pay extra to have the blower fixed. Deric proceeds to say, “I didn’t have to give you a $1000.00 discount” to which I said the heater having a concern was not disclosed on the vehicle condition sticker. Deric then asked if I was willing to work with him. My reply was how much does it cost to have the blower replaced to which Deric replied he didn’t know. At that point I said no I don’t need to purchase a vehicle and will keep looking. As I am collecting my things and my daughter picked up the license plates we brought with, Deric said the blower would cost about $300-$400 to fix. Although on the high side that is an accurate price at a dealership (Seems Deric did know 🤨). I then advised that I was not going to negotiate $300-$400 as the issue was not disclosed on the vehicle condition information. Deric advised he didn’t know there was an issue with the blower. At that point my 17 year daughter correctly asked Deric why he didn’t know if the car was checked dealer for sale. Deric replied it’s a used car to which I replied you had it checked before sale right? Deric made me laugh a little when he then asked after they fix the blower issue would I consider the purchase again. Admittedly, this comment from Deric made me laugh inside. As I was walking out I turned to Deric and advised he should consider the way he talks to customers. Deric then asked what he said, to which I replied, you said, “I didn’t have to give you a $1000.00 discount” and of course Deric’s reply was, “well I didn’t”. On my way out the door I let Deric know that he needs own how he treats and talks to his customers. Maybe Deric was having a bad evening or maybe he needs to read resources regarding providing exceptional customer service but on 1/4/2022 Deric lost my business for Van Horn Budget. More
