Previously, we'd never bought more than one car from any dealer. The entire VanBortel team is totally customer-focused which makes the buying experience stress-free. The showroom is immaculate with numerous amenities, and the staff is neatly dressed and well-groomed. We recently survived a roll-over accident in which our almost new Forester was totaled and, as the Subaru ad says, "We walked away." The emergency responders told us if we'd been driving anything but a Subaru, we probably wouldn't have survived, let alone escaped with only very minor injuries...yet another reason we keep returning to VanBortel; their product is the best! When we went to buy a replacement vehicle, the employees were more focused on our well-being than on selling us another car. Our only "complaint" is that one of the used cars we identified on-line had been sold. Fortunately, we found several others which were available. Our salesperson, Jim Pennell, put a hold on them and had them ready for us to test-drive when we arrived. Thanks, Jim! More

The day I received a phone call alerting me that my Outback came in, I received a second call with a bad news-good news ring to it. The bad news was that there was a mistake on my order. The Outback came in with the Navigation Moonroof + Eyesight Assist, etc. option, which we had not ordered. This has a MSRP tag of $3,490. The good news: it was Subaru's mistake, so we got it au gratis. More

But it all started with a knowledgeable and patient salesman, James Bertino. James helped me from the moment we walked through the door and requested to test ride a vehicle. From there we went other places and came back and James helped us, talking us through different phases. James answered my emails and phone calls. Another test ride, more talk about the vehicle. We had lots of questions, hadn't purchased a new car in over ten years. We have our new car and are very happy with it. I never realized how important a part the salesman plays in the car buying decision. Thank you James for making our experience stress-free. More

I have shopped around on and off for a while now, but I just couldn't stand the way I I am so over the moon about my experience at Van Bortel Subaru. I have shopped around on and off for a while now, but I just couldn't stand the way I was being treated at most places. This was the 1st place where the minute I set foot on the lot I was treated with respect and patience. Buying a car is a big deal and is very expensive so it was important to me to be sure I was buying the right one. In other places I felt rushed into a decision and worse yet, I felt pushed into vehicles that I was not sure about. At Van Bortel my sales associate, Jim, was everything I could have hoped for. He let me try different things, he ran numbers on my top two and gave me the privacy and time to make my decision. After I committed I called about accessories and he had them all set when I picked up the vehicle. In the week following, several members of the Van Bortel team followed up with me. I highly recommend them and will never go elsewhere again! More
sub par experience - would not buy from here again My wife and I purchased a used forester XT here almost two weeks ago. Our sales person was nice enough and helpful, but honestly her job was easy. I My wife and I purchased a used forester XT here almost two weeks ago. Our sales person was nice enough and helpful, but honestly her job was easy. I knew what we wanted and we were prepared to pay cash. The no haggle pricing was nice and the experience looking at the car and what not was fine. The trouble started the moment they knew they had a sale. The business manager called to set up a time to pick up the car and originally it was to be at least two days. For a dealership of this size, I find this unacceptable. I can go into almost any dealership and walk out with a car and yet their inability to meet customer demands prevents this and this was even admitted to by their business manager. I got over that issue and scheduled a time to pick up the car two days later. I was then called and informed it would be three more days due to an open recall. My issue with this is that we were buying a $25k certified vehicle and the recall had been issued over a month before. A certified vehicle should not be on the lot with an open recall. I was getting frustrated and began looking elsewhere and wouldn't you know a local Honda dealership had a similar vehicle. I called and guess what? They were aware of the recall and already had their vehicle fixed. How is it the largest Subaru dealership in the area couldn't figure out how to do that. Fast forward, we still decide to buy the car. We reviewed the certification checklist and several "no's" were checked dealing with the interior. I actually asked what that was about and if rips had been found and was told by their business folks that "no, that means we didn't look at that". A few days after picking up the car I found a small rip in the drivers seat that we hadn't noticed before and I think I was flat out lied to. We looked at the vehicle during the evening with poor lighting. Yes, we should have spotted this but I think to push the sale through they resorted to lying. They also forgot to include an accessory we ordered, which they charged us more than $60 more than I can get the same item for through Amazon, so I had to drive back out to pick that up. Final straw was someone called to ask my opinion and experience. I explained all of this and was told that I would be contacted within 24 hours by a manager to address these concerns as they wanted to ensure everyone a great experience. Guess what? That was four days ago and no call. Take your Subaru business to Spurr in Brockport. By far a much better experience and dealership. Ms. VanBortel should be ashamed of this type of service. More
